I have a shimano travala s jigging rod that broke on a normal cast of a 2 oz jig (rated for up to ~3oz/ 90g). This happened about two weeks from when i purchased it so it is well within warranty period. The problem i am having is that when i went to usps and fedex, the price to ship to shimano USA is around $65. The rod itself was just around $200 and i really dont want to have to pay that much to ship it out. Does anyone know of a cheaper/different way to ship poles or am i SOL? Thank in advance for any help!

Check this and you should be able to get it serviced or replaced at the local Shimano dealer
http://fish.shimano.com/content/fish/northamerica/us/en/homepage/INFO/ROD_SERVICES.html That being said I started fishing with quantum because of a nightmare dealing with a Shimano issue on a 3 week old $270 reel that failed. I can call Tulsa and get things replaced in a week or two at quantum. I know the Shimano guides get amazing service though. I would call U.S. CUSTOMER SERVICE: 1-877-577-0600 And ask them what the best option is
Good luck

He's going to get denied anyway, hopefully. This isn't a warranty claim.
This is what ruins it for the rest of us.

Your first mistake is casting with a jigging rod.
At most, you are going to underhand pitch a jig out from the boat.
These ratings aren't for casting, it's for the action with the specified jig weight.
The fact that those rods are complete noodles should have really given you an idea that maybe casting was a bad idea.
This really isn't a warranty claim. This is the reason that decent warranty programs are going away.

Call first. You might be able to get away with just sending the handle back.

I sell custom built rods on ebay all the time and the cheapest way that I have found to ship a customer his rod is by packing it in a PVC pipe and it runs about $23.00 one way depending on the length.
No need to buy insurgence on it as the postal service insures every package by default you just got to ask about it and so tracking is all you really need.

Call first. a lot of times they will send you a shipping label. or ask you to cut the rod up and send a picture of proof. then they will send you a replacement.
Cutting the rod in pieces denoting area of breakage would be one way , however call them they may have you fill out return form or print out shipping label for return !
I had a couple of Stella’s 1000 ‘s give me issues since I’ve owned them beyond warranty period , I had to argue my case for warranty work ! Finally after talking to a Mgr they relented and dropped all charges !
Good luck with your pole. They had my reel for 6 or so months and sent it back. Said they were having parts problems. Send it back in 3 or 4 months. I guess it's time to look for a new reel company.

You sure with USPS you don't need to buy insurance? Boy they must have changed. One time I ordered a big box of gardening supplies. Somehow it was speared and insecticide powder was spilling out at my home where delivered. First the Postmaster said the delivery postman must have did it. That was changed once they found the stuff all over inside their building. They were no help. Out of the good graces of the company I bought my stuff from they at their own cost replaced the damaged stuff.
