Question on equipment

I’m fairly new to fishing and spend most of my time fishing off shore for perch, bass, and whatever else wants to bite that particular day.

I’m looking for a new reel to add on my existing rod. The rod is nothing special, but I will be looking to upgrade that later. I’m looking for suggestions on an inexpensive spinning reel that will be durable enough to handle whatever will bite. Checked out the Daiwa Regal LT and that looked good, but are there any others that you would suggest? Thank you in advance for any and all answers!

Honestly just go to Walmart and grab a 30 or $40 real and you'll be good just pick something that works with what type of line you want to use

I have something like that now, and the birds nests that happen within the reel itself are a nightmare.

go to the nearest sporting goods store and have them respool it with 10lb mono (well id go with 6 or 8 but maybe you want a little extra strength since your learning) if you find it in bulk it might only cost like 3 or 4 bucks to respool. then at least you have a backup or maybe you fish with it until your ready to pull the trigger on something nicer.

All of the Daiwa LT reels are good, you won't go wrong with them. I have the Legalis LT in 2500, it felt a bit better then the Regal. The brakes are great, they are light, they are sturdy.

Welcome to the Forum, Utz. It's a great place to be, as you can see, there are all kinds of help. Would you put the state which you are from on your profile, please?

Hello, Itz, Since you are fishing from a boat (my interpretation) I would, starting with new line, let my line out with nothing on it and drag it behind the boat to get all the twist out of it. wind it up tight on the spool, every bit of twist will be gone then. When you hang into a fish and it starts to pull line off your spool stop reeling, hold rod tip up, and only start to reel when you can get line back without the drag slipping. If you do this there will be no twisting of your line. When your ready to quit fishing, if you have time drag your line again. Either the morning or the night before you next go fishing put a swivel on your line and stretch it out real good to take the memory (curl) out of your line. If your spool is filled to the proper level this should help limit your bird nest. always keep your line tight on your spool.

Just about any Daiwa or Shimano spinning reel that is the right size that you need will work as there not that big a difference in a spinning reel and replace your current line first before you buy a new reel.

I just bought a couple of Shimano Sedona fl 2500 reels, while they were on sale for Black Friday for about $50 a piece. I haven’t fished with them yet, but they’re way nicer than anything I’ve used before. A lot of what I’ve seen and read online say you can’t go wrong with Shimano or Daiwa spinning reels. Another one I’ve seen rated highly is the Okuma Ceymar.
