I catch mostly small juvenile fish (with scrimp); how can I catch more mature fish?
Many times I'm in a kayak.(fish during daylight hours).
I have had no luck with Lures yet, so I stay with Live Scrimp.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Welcome to the Forum, MC, How are you rigging the shrimp? How heavy of a line are you using? Your hook? Give us some hints of what you are doing wrong.

1.How are you rigging the shrimp? thru back shell, occasionally I tie back shell & tail together [when fish appear pulling shrimp off easily & quickly].
2.How heavy of a line are you using? 12 lb monofilament
3. Your hook? mainly 3/0,some 5/0 hooks

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I don't think you are doing anything drastically wrong. I think what you are running into is the little pinfish are steeling your shrimp and your hooks are too big to catch them. You may want to catch a pinfish and use it for bait, they do make good bait. What I would do is; put a 6# fluorocarbon leader on that 12# test mono line with a size 2 Owner hook and hook the shrimp just below the horn. In front of the dark spot, that is the brain and you will kill the shrimp if you hook him through the brain. If you want to catch pinfish for bait, you will have to go down to at least a size 10 hook, or a size 12 treble hook works well to catch baitfish. Good Luck & Tight Lines.
