Tatula, Cardiff or C3? Looking at a small round reel for salt water. Which of these do you all feel is the most reliable and robust? Anything else in that price range that you feel might be worth a look? Please don't recommend a spinning reel, I already have several. Targeting surf perch on the California north coast. They run right around two pounds or so. Throwing a half ounce or so Carolina rig. They mostly hang out in the surf, not beyond it.

OK. Thanks for the input. Anything in particular? Anything against the other two? I've used Shimano spinning reels almost exclusively for the past 40 years or so. I've got a bassin buddy who uses Calcuttas, swears by them, but I don't want to spend that much. The three I mentioned are all right around $120.

I’m an ABU Garcia man,but I just recently bought a Lews laser xl 60. It’s a bit large but a hoss. I really like it. There is a smaller one I think a 40. I would trust it too. Looking at around $70.

Daiwa reels have always given me a backlash problem for some reason. Never intend to get another one.

Just to throw a tail spin out there,. check out Florida Fishing Products reels! New folks with a good idea! If my antique diawa bg ever breaks down or old penn reel gives out gonna try FFP reels next decade or two.

Looks like FFP does not make a baitcaster, only spinning reels offered. I don't have a thing against spinning reels, use them all the time, but that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks. Nice to know.

I kind of moved on from bait casters with level winds for saltwater. The level wind slows down bait drops and spins around weight too often and others fishing right next to me without level winds are getting bites before I get to the bottom. Now only use ones like Shimano Trinidad or bigger 4/0 boat reels for grouper.
