Hey guys, I have only recently taken up fishing as a hobby and so far, I'm having the time of my life. But the knot always gets me confused. Right now, I am referring to a bunch of videos and switching between means on how to get the best knot at the hook. But I'm sure there is a better way that the way I'm doing it... Looking to learn an easier way to get the right knot. Any suggestions would be great.
I prefer the improved clinch knot, and it is actually simple. All you have to do is, with the tag end, pass the line through the hook eye and make five turns around the standing line. Then, insert the loose end of the line between the eye and the first loop. Once you've achieved this, bring the tag end through the second loop, slightly wet the line and slowly tighten the knot.
Thanks, FishloverMason, I'll give it a try and let you know how it worked out for me.
For me, the Palomar knot works the best and it is actually considered one of the strongest knots. Just create a loop by doubling the line and then insert the loop slowly into your hook's eye. Now, make a loose overhand knot and move the loop through your hook's end. Carefully, while holding the hook, pull the line. You can trim off the excess tag end for a cleaners knot. Try it and let me know if you're facing any problems.
I believe the easiest knot for beginners is the knotless knot. Get your leader line and tie a loop at the end to hold the bait. Now insert the other end of the line through the eye hook, then through the shank. Once done, firmly hold the hook shank with the end of the tag and start wrapping around 7-8 times. Wrap your way towards the end of the leader. Don't overlap the lines and keep them as aligned as possible. Happy Fishing!
I prefer the Palomar knot. Try not to cross your line and the knot will be stronger. The Palomar for me has a longer tag end and I feel that it help my line stronger by reducing the chance of having a nick in the line when changing lures.
You can watch tons of videos on youtube and try new ones.
i agree with the Palomar for just about any fishing need. I've been using this for many years and find it quick and easy to tie. This knot also gives you double strength at the hook which I believe to be a definite advantage in tough fishing situations.
