Recently picked up Calcutta 400B for primarily for northern pike and potentially musky.

65lb or 80lb Power Pro should do it. Use a heavy fluorocarbon leader too, 40lb is fine for pike, but for musky you'll want something 80lb or better, preferably over 100lb. A lot of the charters here on Lake St Clair run 130lb leader.

Thanks I was looking at Power Pro! Lake St Clair is a few hours away, it’s a fishery I want to try at some point.

It's a fine musky lake. You can catch them from shore in the cooler months but come summer you'll need a boat. I've seen a lot of guys get them jigging for walleye and such, pretty common fish out there. I know in other spots around the country they're a lot harder to come by.

Do you have any recommendations of beginner rods? I was looking at the St croix mojo heavy.

I'm not the best person to ask about rods, I usually shop in the under $100 category so somebody better versed in higher end rods would be best to ask.

The reel itself has a max 16.5 Drag.Check the thickness of the 80 LB line and then look at how much you can put on the reel. I do like Power Pro better than Spider wire, as the Spider wire when wet left a build up on the Eyelets and the bail roller on my Spinning reel. That was fun to remove. Not a problem with the Power Pro.
I recommend either the St. Croix musky rod or Musky Innovations 8 or 10 foot rod. Either are great rods for big fish.
