Hey all!
I'm fairly new to fly fishing and thus far have only done it on a lake in northern Minnesota. Bass, northern, and walleye are all I've really caught so I'm new to streams and rivers and especially new to trout.
This coming spring around mid april I'll be going through the Moab area and the South Rim Grand Canyon area. I was curious if anyone knew if that was an okay time in those areas to try fishing, and what I should be using?
Currently just have the cabelas 9ft5wt. Got new floating line and have a couple of good floating leaders and some various tippet.
Rocking some basic starter fly kit tackle boxes with like 100 or so small little guys and some streamers and wooly buggers.
Can't wait to catch my first trout on the fly!
Thanks in advance!

Uh, water is way too warm and muddy in that area to sustain trout.

Thank you for the information. Would anywhere near Grand Junction that time of year be fishable?

The CO river runs right through there and meets the Gunnison in town, although the fishing is better up near Glenwood or down into the Black Canyon.

Thank you. Any places in particular that are easier to get into the water along the Black Canyon? What sort of fly set up should I be using? Only really used top poppers and stripping streamers on lakes.

The Black Canyon is the most remote and inaccessible stretch of all. But now that you've got the options narrowed down you can do some more research.

All kinds of trout a little South of you in the Driftless Area. You can drive right up to them.
Since you mentioned the South Rim, I'm guessing you meant the Marble Canyon/Lee's Ferry area ?
Planning on shoreline fishing ? Your own boat ? Guide or drift boat ? Mid- to late-April is a good time weatherwise ! Summer heat is pretty much irrelevant as it is
tail-race water from Lake Powell
dam; since water released comes from lake bottom, it is fairly constant temperature year-round, which means clear and cold ! I'd look into Lee's Ferry guides/ fishing reports for further, more
up-to-date information ! It is a gorgeous area, so a little more research would be well worth your while !
