How do you guys stay warm?

I just put my kayak up for the winter because it's to cold, how do you guys stay warm? I am a desert rat and think 70 degrees is cold but still.

This is what I wear on a typical day of cold weather kayak fishing:

Compression pants and long sleeve

Fleece sweatpants and long sleeve

Thick fleece sweatpants

2 Pairs of thick wool or synthetic socks

Neoprene booties or rubber muck boots

Fleece balaclava

Waterproof paddling bib/dry top or dry suit over everything

No cotton anywhere.

I don't wear gloves because they limit me too much while paddling and fishing. I find if I keep my core and other extremities warm cold hands aren't a problem.

The gear I listed keeps me comfortable in temps into the 30s and would keep me safe in the event of cold water immersion. If it's colder than that I won't be on the water.

Last February I went yakin in single digits, and I don’t ever consider the yak season to be over as long as the rivers aren’t frozen over (Chicago area).

Just like the guy above said, layers layers layers and none of them cotton! I’m mostly Merino wool layers with some synthetics thrown in, and my Simms G3 waders. I like having one of my inner layers being a button up with two breast pockets so I can put hand warmers in them, right over your heart really makes a difference! Hand warmers in your pockets and foot warmers in your boots. I don’t double sock ever tho, you need circulation so 1 pair of merino socks and foot warmers is all I fit.

Another pro move is taking a thermos of hot thick soup! That can seriously boost morale and body temp.

And lastly, being prepared to be cold and accepting it plays a big part.

Mr. A there is not a day to cold just don't have the right clothing. But I am with you cold finds its way to the bones no matter how many layers I put on. Fishing is good weather here in NC for me in that 55* - 85* range. Any other time there is always tomorrow

When I bank fish in winter
I have a five gal galvanized pail
I load it up with charcoal briquettes
Light it and stand with it at my feet.
Works great if it’s not too windy!
Or
Pallets sledge hammer lighter fluid and some matches!
