Recommend me a 9’ 5wt under $500
I’ve been looking at the Douglas DXF and Sage Pulse and am looking for another opinion for a 9’ 5wt UNDER $500. Thanks, tight lines

Orvis Clearwater is a pretty good bang for the buck. Rig runs $300ish

Anyone had a chance to try out an orvis recon?

Amazing rod, about 650 I think for the full setup. Totally worth it, I have a 5 for all trout applications as well as an 8 I used for tight lining steelhead in New York. Thing is beautiful and fishes like a dream

Awesome thanks! I'm thinking about buying a 4wt 10' and stepping my tightline game up, but also want to be able to tie on a smaller dry occasionally. It seems like a pretty solid bet for that

I have a 9' 5wt Recon and love it. I mostly use it for dries and small nymphs on lakes and it throws a salmonfly dry very well too. Yellowstone angler did a euro rod review I think and said it wasn't that sensitive. I have tried euro nymphing with mine and would agree.

Interesting, good to know. I'll take a look at it and give it a think. Mostly, I want something that can tightline but can also run a longer leader/indicator rig with a little less aggression than my 6wt Redington Hydrogen

Fenwick Aetos - handle isn’t the best finish but it’s a stiff rod that can throw the whole line. I’m still using it as my main rod three years after getting it.

It's a great rod for the price. It would be 400 for a great starter setup. Tfo combos is another place to look in that range.

Ebay, after 1 day on the river they are all used, find a $850 dollar rod of your choice under the $500 mark all day.

I agree - For the money, Orvis Clearwater is the best.
One of the best #5 weights ever made older G Loomis GLX ! U can but used probably under $350 ! I have both 8.5 and 9’#5 GLX for over 25 seasons excellent rods , I purchased 2 of each in case I break one !
