Sougayilang. Piscifun. There's a couple others. Are they any good? Or a waste of money? Asking for a friend.
I had a sougayilang reel lasted about 2 months and started locking up on me never got it wet or dirty but it started grinding one day tried oiling it which it shouldn't have needed being brand new so I junked it never buy from them again
Thank you Gerard. That's what I'm looking for. FLW AL I agree with you, you get what you pay for, in most cases. That sougayilang cost Gerard maybe 40 or 50 bucks. So he paid that amount of money for a worthless piece of junk. A fifty dollar reel should last a little while, don't you think? So a good Penn or
Ambassadeur reel costs about $150. Is it 3x the reel that the 50 dollar sougayilang is? I'd say it's way more than that. And is a 300 dollar Penn twice the reel of the 150 dollar one? That's what I'm asking.
If fresh water fishing they all work, Salt durability spend some extra. Daiwa black and gold reels still working great right next to Penn reels. So many new reels out with big price tags. Find a work horse and work it.
I have found that one of the problems with them is that the grease they use gets tacky. Cleaned the out the grease with 91% Alc, not 70% as that leaves a film, and then regreased with Penn Grease. Bail now flips as it is supposed to. 91% cost about 50 cents a pint more but is much much better for cleaning with. Wipe the area with water and a paper towel and there is no residue from the Alc. I agree you get what you pay for. That said I still have a Garcia 406 from the 70's with extra spools, and an old Daiwa 7700A from 1978. The Daiwa, I am about to replace the metal drag washers on as they have aged, salt. But it still casts and works good.
