Would 10 lb braid line work with appropriate leaders for saltwater pier/shore fishing and freshwater lake fishing?

Trying to keep my rigs to one to two rods/reels. Haven’t caught a fish yet.

Setup is ugly stik gx2 travel rod 6’6” and shimano IX 4000 reel Im thinking of

I’m not a fan of light braid. 30 lb 832 suffix always does me right. 20 lbs would be as thin as I’d go

20-30 lbs for saltwater? Or 20-30 for both?

Both. 30# is amazing for ripping through weeds, sticks, and rocks. I normally use a 20# monofilament leader for abrasion resistance. It also leaves a bit of a shock absorber so it’s not so harsh to set the hook. 30# braid is perfect for 99% if tasks

I’ll take note of that! So 30 lb of braid for both freshwater and saltwater I didn’t know that. Reel is designated for 15 lbs drag though max.

I apologize I don’t know much technical terminology about fishing.

I normally catch up to 5-8 pound saltwater catfish but there’s also 60 pound red drums in the area so I never know what takes the hook. I have a shimano curado 200i. I use it for salt water and freshwater but I take it apart, clean, and grease it every 3 months or so. No substantial oxidation yet.

I use 10# braid for Crappie jigging. It’s not big enough for saltwater fishing. I use 30# braid for saltwater with a 20” 20# leader. I wouldn’t worry about what the reel recommends. Before I switched to braid I used 17# test on everything, except Crappie reels, with no leader and caught 15 to 20 lb. reds with no problems. Hell of a good fight too. Just use your drag correctly so it doesn’t break your line. With braid, it doesn’t normally break.
