Since we don't see where the line is coming from, this is only half the story. See Luke Simond's video on the Salt Strong site for the real deal.

Sorry my friend these videos don't make your line behave any differently. 30+ years of fishing and still a crapshoot.

Well, I have been fishing since 1945 and am still learning. The latest thing I have learned is to use a device made by Piscifun and available on Amazon. It handles loading baitcasting reels the same as other devices, but for spinning reels it rotates the spool at the same rate as the reel. See the demo video on MarxFishing (You Tube). No Crapshoot here.

Lol. I think I have this device. I'm still trying to find out how to add pics on this site or I would show you. Maybe I'll get different line.

Any ideas on a good line that isn't braid would be a big help.

AFAIK, your choices are: mono (for topwater, definitely), otherwise perhaps with a fluorocarbon leader, depending on species and circumstances; braid (with a fluoro leader for many species); or straight fluoro. Nothing in my experience calls for 100% flouro. A wire leader will save you lures with bluefish; with Spanish mackerel you can sometimes get away with wire (other times they get away with your lure).

I did find some fluorocarbon coated stuff that isn't too bad. Works great on my pflueger. Not great on smaller spools though.
