Don’t know if you guys covered this before Or I might have missed it. How long can you keep braided line if you store it in a fishing closet away from the weather?
Hoss, was it used or new would help those in the know?
I can normally tell once I make a few cast if it needs replacing after a long break from fishing.
Bought too big of a spool. Filled my reel and I have a whole lot left. Just wanted to know if I can keep it for the next season and maybe the season after that
It will last indefinitely. I reverse my line on reels every 3 years and replace it every 5 years. I use Power Pro line exclusively.
Good to know going to give it a try

Call me lazy and thrifty but my 30 lb braid that I use for Muskie is a mere 20 years old!
I’ll pull off about 5yards a year and re-tie
Never lost a fish from bad line
I have 15# and 20# braid on my spinning reels, some as old as three years. After every fishing excursion, I snip off about 3-5' of line from the front end. I then run my line from the front door knob to the back door in my kitchen(about 40 yds) and stretch it. If it doesn't break, I loop it over the back door knob back to the front door and stretch it again. I do this 4 times which allows me to check about 150 yds of line. It's broken on me a couple times but only from abrasion in the front 10 feet or so. To me I find braided line to be quite durable. Tight lines.
I don’t know. Sounds pretty “iffy”.
You better play it safe and send the remainder of that spool to me and I’ll pitch it for you.
the BIGGEST enemy of braid line is sunlight. Do not store in the sun and if you use in saltwater always rinse after every use and you should get MANY years of use out of it. A tip from KVD take a BLACK dry marker and run it over the last 10-15 feet of your line it makes it less visible to shy fish(?) don't know but it seems to work for me give it a try. hope this helps you. Another key I've picked up from fishing with some of the big boys that change their fluorocarbon line everyday during tournaments. They know how far they cast out say their reels hold 150 yards of line and they only cast out 70 yards they will put a piece of tape at about 75 yards on their reel and replace with uni to uni . Even though many of these guys are sponsored the amount of line they go thru is unbelievable and this saves a lot. just sayin. Kind of long winded but I hope it helped

You are such a giver, Charlie. Always willing to help a guy
Hey captjohn - not sure if visible line is an issue so my last line change I bought black braid
Keep mine indoors in a closet and have used for several years, just reversed this year, no issues.
Sorry need to add, if never used on a spool kept out of the sun or heat should be just like new. No telling how long some has been on the shelf in a store. Tight lines!
