I'm looking to go on a weekend fishing trip with my buddy, and we are thinking of doing a 2 day fishing trip in the spring. We are going to camp overnight and would prefer a river that is fairly navicable. Not afraid to portage some, but would like to keep it minimal. Does anyone have any suggestions? Target species will be tailored to the river, so no particular species.

The Hudson River has lots of species to go for. Or salmon river in Pulaski.

Any particular stretch you would recommend?

The Adirondacks has about a million lakes and they all have campsites.

That's a good idea! I'm not sure I want to do lake fishing, but I'm not ruling it out.

Many of them are damned rivers. Also lots of long thin glacial lakes.

I like the area of Rattlesnake Island and Coxsackie Island on the Hudson

That's good, I hadn't considered how far the Hudson went up. I'll look into that! Any particular species that area is known for? I know in PA the Susquehanna is known for small mouth and catfish.

The Delaware man...plenty of launches, campgrounds, and great fishing for shad, smallies, trout and walleye...

I think the area around the Delaware water gap in the poconos might work for you Just my opinion
I live on Susquehanna top-notch Smallmouth fishing especially this time of year through the winter need a jet boat though lots and lots of rocks to mile wide and 3 feet deep
I agree with fishfinder, I grew up near the Delaware River. Muskies, walleyes, catfish. If you catch the shad run you could be in for a great day.
