Sorry to here that as well. Is she on Medicaid or insurance? Have faith. Don't give up. Wish there was something better I could say

Hey to all of you guys and gals, thank you. She is so tired of me nagging her to take this and that that I'm not sure she's ready to just go. She hasn't eaten more than a half yogurt or a pudding a day for a month and I'm watching her go down hill daily. Thank the Lord she goes in the hospital for other procedures Thursday and I'm going to beg them to commit her and install a feeding tube and get her nourished again. If they will do that I can maintain her nourishment and health.

We are both on Medicaid and private insurance, thank goodness. We've also saved a bit, not enough to cover this I'm sure.

To let you know where I'm at, I've price shopped cremation prices just in case and so my Daughter doesn't need to worry about that at end of our lives

Again. Thank You. It's good to know there's back up. Mike

Thanks BF. Most of those children are still out there. We need to engage them every chance we get. Be proactive in our pursuit. Many of them served when others couldn't - or chose a different path. They took someone else's place. There, but for the grace of God, go I, eh?

I was 4-f. Tried to join the Marines following my Dads lead, he wanted to kick my ass, nope, tried to join the AF, no deal. Went to Richmond for the draft and didn't pass either time so my dad got me a job with the Merchant Marine and arranged to get me assigned to a Northern Europe assignment, can you imagine Holland . Unfortunately I signed on to go to South East Asia, on an ammo ship headed to Viet Nam. I spent my 18th birthday in a cheap bar/whore house in Panama of which I was so stupid I sent a Pic home to my Mom with a barely clad woman.

I am now 70 years old though still feel like an 18 teen old in ways mentally and am taking care of my losing my wife who just turned 68. She goes in for several procedural s on Thursday but I'm afraid they are to late.

I've been begging fo medical help for months and it's not there

Decades ago, I ran across this while visiting the VietNam Memorial at Angel Fire, New Mexico. The memorial was built by the efforts of a Father whose Son was lost in the War. It was his way of paying tribute to his Son, who fought alongside a good friend of mine. The following was left there by a visiting Veteran...unknown. As Memorial Day approached and remembering that Viet Nam was a war fought primarily by teenagers, I felt compelled to post it on OPP. I am posting it again, here on FS, just as it appeared at the Angel Fire Memorial.

'LOSS OF INNOCENCE'

We were children.
Patriotic, brave children.
Innocent of Honor.

All too soon,
We were forced to grow up,
To face danger and bloodshed.
Terrors, real and imagined,
Waited there in the dark.
But, grimly determined,
We stood our ground,
Though the reason got lost
In the fight.

And we were proud!
Then we came home....
Some of us whole and some of us not,
And no one cared.

All these years we've stumbled along,
Bewildered and lost, remembering,
And lonely...
Scorned, ridiculed and ignored,
For something out of control.

And now we're men...
Hardened and inside ourselves.
But it's not too late,
Won't you try and understand?
We were just children.

I have talked to Shutupand fish a few times on the phone etc.

He is a great guy.

He has Served all of us in keeping our Shores safer and all the rest that the US Coast Guard Blesses this Great Nation with.

We are going to get some fishing in together when it works out. I just wanted you all to know on Fishingstage he is way cool and would prefer to be told to SHUTUPANDFISH....but don't forget the Bait ................!

Thank you Shutupandfish. Most people have no freaking idea of just what you guys and gals do. I so appreciate your service and dedication. In my early years I spent my life on the water and at one point, along with my sister, had to call on the CG to tow me in under heavy winds with a dead engine on a sailboat, very professional and slowed the tow down so that I could dock the boat without having any damage. Where in Va. are you? I'm in Chesapeake just outside of Norfolk and Va. Beach. A really good place to catch shrimp is under the bridge that leads to Bay Island. Take a light to hang over the water at night and do as everyone else has said as far as chumming. A long handled net or a throw net will help. Mike

In my dealings with Game Wardens I've come to think they are given lessons in "Nastiness". I've never been cited by one but I've been checked fishing and hunting. I got checked after an evening of duck hunting once. I didn't hit a single duck. I now know where the Russians got the idea of hypervelocity cruise missiles. Ducks are FAST. Anyway that game warden was the nastiest human being I ever ran across that wasn't trying to rob me. I just thought the Drill Instructors at Parris Island were nasty. No sense in being like that.

The only people who have more arrest power than Game Wardens are bail bond collector who have no legal restrictions on them.

Game Wardens have more arrest/citations powers than Police, State Police, Federal Deputies, the Coast Guard, the Marines, etc. That's an awful lot of power to allow AN individual to have. Most are really good guys and I know a bunch of them but there is always those who let this go to their heads. Don't believe me, google them. Mike

She had 1 crappie in the cooler.
Measured it with a tape measure from lower lip ( mouth open ) to tail

Game warden shows up and checks with mouth closed and it’s just shy. Writes citation
Very costly mistake.
Moral. When in doubt , better toss it!

BS on the Warden, should have given a warning after advising the woman on how to legally measure a fish and they wonder why cops are getting shot which I don't approve of. I mean if she/they had taken a limit on undersized crappies then yes ticket them but one fish that measures ok one way but not another, give me a break. Hell, I've caught flounder that just measured the limit and by the time I left the water they had shrunk by 1/4 of an inch which would make them illegal. Mike

Mine too. I remember as a kid my parents took us up there as the dam was being built.
I fished there many times since and have done some family camping too. My favorite place to fish, especially in the fall.
I feel terrible for the people that live there, such a thing to go through.
It will never be the same again.

You are right, it'll never be the same, it'll be even better. These aren't SF or LA folks and I'm an east coast guy. Mike

I recently had a dispute with one of my neighbor friends about following the fishing regulations versus poaching. We had gone fishing a couple of times and only caught some dink trout so we released them. We went on one more trip together and caught many good size trout 12-16” on a nymph and indicator rig. I released all but one fish but my fishing buddy was keeping all of his fish and was soon over the legal limit. When we left the fishing spot he said “remember tell the game warden that some of these are yours so I don’t get a ticket”. I didn’t immediately say anything because he was driving and we were about 60 miles from home. (I don’t like hitchhiking)!

He came by about a week later and wanted me to fish with him again and I refused. He asked why and I told him that I didn’t want to fish with him because he didn’t follow regulations and asked me to lie to a game warden. He made several excuses about how Fish and Game sets unreasonable limits and that he didn’t believe anything they said. It was obvious that he hates being regulated. I replied that everything he said didn’t matter because the bottom line is that he broke the law and tried to make me an accomplice. He then stormed off mumbling and hasn’t spoken or even looked at me since.

My father raised me to follow the fishing regulations, release small fish and to be courteous to wardens and other fisherman. I had a similar experience with a friend when I was a kid. My father told me “well if he doesn’t follow the rules then don’t fish with him anymore”. I also believe that wildlife management is necessary especially these days when there are many more hunters and fisherman competing for the resources.

What is your opinion?

The thing is if he could grab that extension cord he'd never hit the ground because the cord would get tangled up on something on the way down. Mike
