Great review of your area. I was in the area a few weeks after the storm and couldn’t believe the amount of devastation. I’m glad to see the great news regarding the fish and marine conditions.
I’m further north in Sarasota but sometime in the future will seek out the fish in your area.
Once again thanx for the report

Longboat key park has a good parking area and access to the inlet on the beach where you can fish . The current runs strong but fish are caught there . There’s no swimming in this area

Are inflatable boats worth the investment? Are they safe for saltwater fishing. Are electric motors good? What are the safest punncture proof brands?

I ve been researching inflatables here in Sarasota. From what Ive seen in my readings is that boats made out of hypalon are more resistant to sun and can last 10 or more years. The boats made of pvc are apparently damaged by the sun and life expectancy is about 5 years.

I don’t know how good the electric motors are. Saw one item for a mercury electric outboard it run time was approximately one hour on the battery . I don’t think electric outboards are ready for the average guy yet
Trolling motors on small boats are a different story. I had one and could use if for hours with no problem but there was no speed.
As far as fishing in one I’ve seen YouTube videos where folks covered the inflatable floors with a rubber mat to protect it from sharp objects. I have mixed feelings right now about how feasible they are for fishing but since my HOA won’t let me park a boat in my driveway I may have to go inflatable. Hope this helps.
Just my opinion. Maybe others will reply also.

New to Bradenton,fl. area are there any good saltwater fishing here???

I’ve been here in Sarasota about a year and just started scouting new spots to fish.
There’s a city pier, the.
Bridge street pier on Anna Maria island. Went there yesterday and saw folks catching
Small fish , pinfish and snapper. Clean and well lit . Might be a good evening night spot

Nearby on longboat key before you cross the bridge is a large parking lot that gives you access to the inlet under the bridge. Tides and strong currents but Ive seen folks catch fish there.

Skyway pier near Tampa is an easy way to fish , no lugging carts here. Drive onto the pier , pick a spot and park and fish. For a few bucks admission fee it seems to be a good spot.
I’ll continue to explore spots and keep you updated .

I love fishing fresh or salt water. Prefer @the coast. Travel to fish no issue. Want to share knowledge and have others share too. Here is a page with NC Piers and live cam links.

Do you have any tips about either pier, bait shops or diners near a pier?

I'll start. Bogue inlet/Emerald Isle has tackle there, pay to enter booth in front. Don't know if it is for sand sitters or anglers. I haven't had to pay yet. A hotel is next door, good diners within 1 mi. Ace hardware has good bait and tackle. There is overhead cover
spaced along the pier. Good protection from rain/wind. Nice staff.

I fished kiptopeke state park on eastern shore for several years.
A few bucks to get into the park to fish the pier.
Large concrete pier with lighting and fish cleaning tables with running water. There are campsites for RV and also tents in the park. For food I recommend Sting Rays for seafood or Royal farms nearby if you’re into fried chicken.

The free pier in cape Charles is also a good spot , I’ve caught flounder and many ribbonfish there over the years.

Fort Fisher in Kure Beach, Brackish water @Cross Creek. They have crabbing, fishing, shrimping on their small pier. RV, camping, cottages, variety of room types, trailers, Cafe, events, etc. Look it up. Beach is right across the street. Kure Beach pier near there. Aquarium nearby.

Cheatham Annex, Navy base in Virginia. Military ID to get on. Will need Virginia fishing license and buy one for post. Long cement pier. Call ahead to see if ship in dock. Sometimes that blocks the use of pier. They have fresh water ponds, boat, camper rentals, rv park, showers for campers, and cabins to rent. Nice!

I don't know much about SC. Will go if I can get some advice.

Now your turn!

I’m planning on coming down in May from Pennsylvania to fish the skyway bridge and I was wondering if you might know how the fishing is during that time of the year and what kind of fish you can catch and keep, i’m from Pennsylvania but I grew up in Daytona Beach and grew up there and lived there for 18 years but never made it to the skyway pier and I’ve done a lot of research on it but I thought I would try to find out someone from the area tell me what’s the fishing by and in May

I can’t be much help in that department. I too recently moved from Pennsylvania in bucks county and am new to the Florida fishing areas. I’ve fished skyway and always got bit but nothing very big. Winds were the problem when I was there. I’ve also fished the jetties in Venice, looked good but traversing the rocks near the paved part of the jetties was a challenge for me with bad knees. The beach adjacent to the jetty looked got so I think I’ll try that next. Lots of spots to fish on west coast . I plan to try them all eventually.
Good luck and tight lines

Hello I live in Clearwater fl and my daughter wife and I are looking for places to fish around no real fish were on the hurt for its more of the catch then anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated

You might want to try the skyway pier either side. Pretty convenient in that you can drive to where you want to fish, no hauling a lot of stuff on foot. For the few dollars entrance fee I think it might be a place to consider.

I’m not sure if there is a best time. I believe it’s more about the tides. Incoming tide has water that is clearer than outgoing tides. Seems to me that when the water temp is low the outgoing tides might be better because you have the warmer water coming out of the shallower areas where it gets heated during the day.
Soooo, I think the really beast time to be at the jetty is whenever you can get there. Even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work. Tight lines

Finally getting my cart and gear ready for fishing the beaches around the Venice, Englewood and surrounding areas. Looking for ideas.

Thanks

I’ve fished the jetty at Venice and in looking at the beach adjacent to the jetty it might be a good place to try.
The access to the jetty and the adjoining beach is through humphris park. Parking is good and it wasn’t crowded when I went. If I find any other spots that look good I’ll let you know

Welcome to the FS and Thank for your service.

I’m a new transplant from Pennsylvania now in Lakewood ranch.
Just saw that st Pete beach hauled away 1500 pounds of dead fish from the beaches because of red tide.
No one is sure when the red tide will dissipate. Maybe I’ll see you on skyway pier one day. Pretty relaxing and easier because you can drive right up to where you want to fish. Tight lined

How do I navigate to fishing related to St Pete, Fl?

I’m. Ew to Florida also. Haven’t found much on fishing st Pete other than skyway pier.
I’ve been there twice with minimal action so far.
If you do find a good area keep in touch.

Today fished the Venice south jetty located in humphris park in Venice.
Outgoing tide with substantial current.
Dolphins we’re everywhere , looked like flipperville.
A few bites but no hookups.
Saw a guy take a fall on the rocks. Caution is best on uneven or slippery rocks.

Is there any place you can go to for Salt water fishing? I have no boat and usually go to Matlacha or the causeway.

If you’re willing to drive awhile try the skyway bridge. Not crowded during the week and a large area for you to try.
I’m new to,Florida and went there once so far. I plan on going again. Tight lines

Where in PA did you move from? And where did you move to in Florida? I moved here from Delaware county PA three years ago. We live in North Venice now. That’s in Sarasota County

Moved from Doylestown bucks county to Lakewood ranch outside of Sarasota manatee county.
Still unpacking boxes from the move but did fish skyway pier one time.
