WARNING!
May 24, 2023 12:06:37   #
Robert J Samples Loc: Round Rock, Texas

I have been in communications with Franklin Mutual Funds and was planning to open an income account. All my messages back and forth have been by phone.
They have responded in an appropriate manner. I had asked if I could ‘drip’ deposits of around $10,000, but eventually get up to as much as $100,000? I was told yes! Now I thought I already knew the answer since I had been a broker for almost forty years!
On Monday of this week, I got a call from a female who had a distinctively foreign accent, asking about my opening an account, and pretending she was with Franklin. When I asked about the minimum, she said it had to be $100,000, nothing less.
My suspicions were aroused. Even though she knew the last four digits of my social security account, I was quite suspicious and hung up. Today, I called Franklin and the agent on the line again verified that I could deposit any amount, just drip funds over time if I wished. This is called ‘dollar cost averaging’. This proved to me the female caller was obviously a ‘spam’ caller!
I do not know how or when the fictious caller got my private information, but it was obviously a ‘spam’! So, be warned, the computer crooks are getting smarter and bolder. Don’t trust anyone but verify everything. Just Sayin…RJS

Thanks for the warning.
Sorry that happened to you RJ - seems to be a new or alternate version of a SCAM every day.

The harsh reality is that there is NO privacy any longer. Call Mickey paranoid, but someone or something is listening in or watching you ready to steal information and or $$. AI has become “the genie out of the bottle”, unleashed & even weaponized for unconventional military use.
Sadly, I’ve even have to screen some trusted friend’s pm’s (on this Stage platform) via an alternative email address.
Post 9/11 has made me open up my eyes & think outside the so-called norm. I’ve had my Identity stolen twice already and made it a priority to not take a “third strike” - if it does happen, shame on me - be assured I’ll go down swinging & not looking…

Thank you for the heads up! What a bugger about having to be so so careful these days. Scammers have become very sophisticated with their ability to sleuth thru our communications.

Hopefully your investment strategy works out well for your intentions. I for one am glad to at least see CD's in the 5% yield range starting last Fall. It has been 2 decades of "el zippo zilch" for folks that enjoy reasonably safe havens for their money management outside of the stock market or other high risk mediums. It's barely enough to over run current inflation, but it's a start!

Please I am not trying to boost or sell Franklin Funds. It is just that my experience has been they do what they promise, and are a stand-up company. At my age, I do not want, nor accept more than the minimum risk.

If you are young, with a high income, few financial obligations, and can stand the heat, meaning adverse conditions in different markets, and have the temperament, then go for it! Just Sayin...RJS

Now days even putting money in a bank is a risk. Today they’re open, tomorrow they may be closed. Time to start putting your money in the mattress…

R J : If you use an unencrypted cell phone, like many folks, anybody with the correct equipment can intercept, record and save your conversations for their own nefarious uses. RF transmissions are on the PUBLIC airwaves.
Rather than spend a fortune on hiring a vast amount of new IRS agents, it might be a better idea to beef up the staffing levels @ the FCC & Department of Commerce to fight this stuff, IMHO. Just sayin'.

Thank you Kerry. I am almost certain my phone call to Franklin was intercepted. I can keep an unwanted party from intercepting my U.S. Mail and any checks I might send.

The party that called and was pretending she was with Franklin had my last four digits of my Social! She had a very poor accent. My wife said I was rude, but when people are trying to steal from me, to Hell with social graces! So, it is likely a phone intercept. Just Sayin...RJS

We get several scam calls a day that they manage to manipulate the phone number and business or name calling but most of the times sounds Asian. When I have knowingly answered to ask just where in that location they are, they hang up. I usually don't answer and My NOMOROBO generally hangs up after one ring.

That’s exactly why I don’t do “ANY” financial or banking business online. IMO it’s just not worth the risk. I worked too hard for my money to have some A-hole from who knows where take it from me. I’m nervous enough just having it in a prominent bank…🐟on
