Help....I post a lot of photos of Havasu bass but I'm so frustrated practicing with plastic worms the past few weeks. Any advice would be appreciated, today I lost 5-6 bass after I got a hit and couldn't hook them. I still question why only one hook is used in the nose, think about it you wouldn't fish a crankbait with just a single hook in front? Am I setting the hook too quick or not fast enough?
Usually Texas rigged with a split shot 12-18" up the line, bass seem to like the looks but sometimes gone real quick and other times they stay on half way to the yak before I lose them. Been watching TacticalBassin videos and he gives a lot of good advice and great live action videos and you can see them spit it sometimes so it seems you have to be quick.
Any advice guys?

What kind of rod are you using ?
Some times that makes a difference on your hook set and keep your hooks sharp.
As you know you need to know what kind of bite is going.
It has been a soft bite right now where I'm fishing right now.
I using medium action with a fast light tip so I can feel the pick up or bump and set the hook fast and hard !!, and keep your line tight when working your worm 🪱 or you will miss your hook set.
That's why I have 6 rods in my boat with different actions and it's a crap shoot know what rod to start off with but the fish will tell you and what kind of prevention the want.
Good luck.

To get a good hook set you need a stiffer rod. If your rod is too limber it doesn't work as good as a stiffer rod.
Also when you Texas Rig a Senko you can run your hook all the way through the worm where the hook is exposed. Then just barely skin hook the point of the hook so it still makes it weedless.
If your Senko isn't hangin straight in like with your main line then it isn't hooked right.
Hope this helps you land more fish.

Goin fishin tomorrow just to get my mind off ALL the stuff I've got goin on.
Just bein out on the water with a friend is very helpful. And like you said. Even if you don't catch any fish.

Saws right about the stiffer rod. You need a rod with some spine to get good hook tip penetration. Took me way too long to figure that out! My flyrod has an ul spincast really good for crappie and bream, terrible on all bass species. Lost a lot of good fish til I figured it out.

Hi Langer,

I'm surprised tactile bassin did not mention the type of rod. I use medium heavy rods for wormin (Texas, C-rig, senko's, wacky style) etc. When you feel the bite or see the line move, reel down and set the hook.

Hope this helps. I really enjoyed fishing the rocky shores with top water spooks and pop R's some years back.

Langer,

Are you rigging your worms “weedless”? DM me, I’d be happy to talk with you, and return the favor for Havasu fishing advice…

Texas rig and C-rig entail using bullet weight most of the time. I hook the worm or senko through the body of the worm and then hook the point under the skin of the worm. That makes it weedless. Wacky rig leaves the worm or senko more apt to be caught and hung up.

Texas rig, 1/0 hook , with a 3/16th or quarter oz. Slip sinker and a worm that you have had luck on. It seems to keep it all together, feel the bite and set the hook. Hopefully you will have better luck.
I went through the same thing years ago.

Thanks fellas for the comments, I agree a stiffer tip is necessary so I need to put the trout rod away and get the bass rod back out. I watch the pros in tournaments set that hook with real purpose.
No one mentioned the one nose hook, would more hooks work better? Like I said you wouldn't fish a crankbait with just a front treble so that's why I question it.

You should be usin a "Worm Hook" made for Bass Fishin with plastic worms/Senkos.

Yes I have a large assortment of worm hooks and use quite a variety, just questioning the single hook in front configuration.
