Hello,
Our family is from the islands and recently moved to Colorado. My family loves fishing & being outdoors. We are used to fishing in the big blue ocean but now must get used to fishing in lakes. Hoping it’s not much of a difference but any tips is appreciated :)
I don't know what could be more different. I've lived in Colorado 25 of the last 50 years. Just finished a long conversation with a neighbor who just moved here from California where he did a lot of shore and boat fishing out there. Somebody listening would have thought we were talking two different languages. Lotsa 8" to 14" trout in CO - even a 20-24" now and then. There's a few crappie in the eastern plains lakes (reservoirs in CO). Most lakes you can find some bass. Far cry from what those folks pull out of the big water. Rerig my friend, rerig.
Ive been reading alot of freshwater fishing books. I could reccomend a couple. Also In Fisherman is a great freshwater subscription that is inexpensive.
I have a 5 6" ultra light spinner for streams a 6 6" medium spinner and my new 8 6" med heavy baitcaster im trying out for shore on lakes. Very generally speaking ultra light to medium spinning rods. Keep it simple and build up.
Buy cheap mono line and keep it as light as you can tolerate. Tie directly to lures except spinners use a snap swivel. Salmon eggs for trout. Worms for trout and everything else. DOWNLOAD CPW FISHING APP and explore!
