So I go fishin with my kid last year and he pulls this reel out with a line counter. I’m still kind of old school. I count lengths by several different methods. Anyhow, I was pretty impressed with the accuracy he was able to attain. I asked him where he got it and he got it at a garage sale for $15.00. This is the reel he bought. I really liked it so I got online and bought one for myself…I didn’t get that good of a deal. It is a dandy, though!

Mine too.
I love my Lews American Hero Speed Spin AH300. Granted that's a spinning reel but I use it for Striper fishin and they work GREAT. Has a 6.2 to 1 retrieve. With 30 pound braid you can chinch the drag down as tight as you need for the rod you're usin.
Holds plenty of line and the cost is under 40 bucks. PLUS, a percentage of the sale price goes to a fund for Veterans. I have several of them. They actually come in 3 different sizes. The 300 is the middle size.

Saw I don't have the hero but I do have a MH2-300 SPIN Speed. It is very smooth. I have it spooled with 8lb super slick with 6lb floro leader for Ned rig n or small jigs

I think so too. Those are the only reels I buy anymore.

But I'm a cheap guy and can't see spendin big bucks for something I can spend 40 bucks on that suits my needs as much as one someone else spends 200+ bucks on. But that's just me. Not faultin someone else that spends more on their reel. It's just not for me.

I’m with you on that one I do buy some more expensive stuff sometimes but more for want than need but usually just lews for freshwater and penn for saltwater I haven’t been able to do anything any better with the high dollar ones than them and honestly the cheaper penn stuff I have seems to be holding up better than the higher dollar ones
