I’ve recently started fishing for steelhead, so I went and bought my first waders. My question is, what do you guys wear under your waders? Is warmth your main concern? Do you wear shoes or boots inside of your waders? Jeans? Sweats? Thermals? Any advice is appreciated

If its cold, I generally wear long jons under my jeans with my waders over the top. For extreme cold, I have a pair of Heavyweight wading pants I purchased from Cabela's. I like the strap that keeps your pants leg from "riding up" when you put your waders on

Wool socks for cold weather. No need for shoes. If your wader has boots built in you're set with just socks underneath. If your waders don't have built in boots, you need a pair of wader boots to wear over the stocking foot.

Depends (not the adult diapers...well maybe 🤔).

If you've got the old-school type (flexible rubber), I would wear wool pants (army surplus) over thin long johns and wool socks. I put bands (bike shop) on the cuffs in order to keep the pants from bunching up.

If you've got the wetsuit style, I'd wear thick long johns with wool socks (pulled over the cuffs).

I also wear a life jacket since both types will float you feet up without one. If you opt to wear a belt, don't cinch it too tight--you'll want to be able to dump the air out of the feet quickly.

If you're going to be fishing on a rocky shore, you may want to consider glueing some heavy felt or indoor/outdoor carpet to the soles (use a good quality contact cement).

Always take a dry change of clothes.

Hope this helps.

I’ve use Frogg Toggs Anura 2 stocking foot waders. Very comfortable, don’t weigh much, easy to move around in, nice pockets. Great price overall best bang for your buck!
