Canned sardines and bananas worked for me to catch a raccoon in a large live trap...

Good luck and you might need to carefully approach the cage to drape something over it to prevent being sprayed!

I used to use dead chickens for skunk. Git them from the egg farm next door. Probably easier to use something like canned cat food . Peanuts or peanut butter should work for any kind of squirrel. The bigger question is getting the skunk OUT of the trap.

It’s illegal to relocate skunks in CA. caught 2 in a havahart trap and had to pay guy $200 to release them on a lower part of my 1.6 acres. He put a big towel over the trap. I would trap squirrels and shoot them with pellet gun. The poison I tried worked like fertility drugs.

If you catch a skunk, approach your catch with an old, unzipped sleeping bag as a shield an drape it over the trap. I’ve done this several times and it has worked for me.

I've caught them both with unsalted peanuts in the shell. Hav-a-hart trap, medium size. Have not had the courage to try to pick up and relocate the skunks. Just cover cage slowly with blanket ,open the door with very shaky hands, put a brick so the door will stay open until they decide to come out, usually after dark. Squirrels go 5 miles away to a new home in the woods.
