Was just wondering how many of the Other Ocean Bordering States have a “Long Leader” fishing rule or option for Ocean fish Species? Oregon has a generous catch limit this year for long leader. Long leader means first hook has to be a minimum of 30’ Above the Weight. Didn’t know if you’d seen this yet Jeremy. I know you like ocean fish. This type of fishing target’s Suspended fish, and not Bottom fish at all. I tried it last summer for the first time.

Hey RP. Do you really mean 30 feet or did you mean 30 inches?

It actually states that in the first picture with All the writing. They don’t want you to hook Any bottom fish, Cod, Halibut, Flounder. And of course the Yellow Eye that have been protected off Oregon coast for Years.

Ya, it’s only done out past the 40 Fathom line, so over 240 feet deep. Targeting those 10 specie in the pic

Seems like simply allowing 30' of slack line would put the bait on the bottom?

It would guru, but they also require a Non Collapsible Float above the Top Hook to prevent that from happening. Keeps the hooks off the bottom. It’s also Artificial Flys, Jigs, or other artificial baits only.

No worries Saw, I was just interested if any other States had a suspended fish targeting process in their Fishing Rules.

To be honest, I really don't know. HOWEVER, bein as I'm in California, it wouldn't surprise me. If there's a rule AGAINST something, California probly has it on their books too.

So true, but why would any sportsman want to do that? It just kills fish they can not keep anyway. It would just be a form of poaching and poachers would just go to the bottom with a weight anyways.
