This is my first post on this forum. I have been fishing since I was five. Got into fly fishing and tying flies in my twenties. I do some bass fishing with spinning/bait casting gear, but prefer a fly rod.
I have fished all over California and many western states. Also fished in Mexico, Brazil and Cuba.

Welcome to the stage. I was once a man that would tie flies and go after whatever would hit. I still go after whatever will hit, but spent a bit of money on a bass boat quite a few years ago and decided I would try to learn something about bass fishing. Still learning and still enjoy casting a fly rod now and again.

Thanks. I got the bass gear through a good friend. He has a beautiful Ranger bass boat. He prefers that I throw spinning/bait casting baits to flies. One of my big bass flies hit his motor years ago and it was my excitement that caused the mishap. I hadn't thrown a lure in over thirty years. Felt like a newbie! He has since let me bring a fly rod along with my five bass rod arsenal. Still learning!

I love throwing flies for smallmouth in the river, but I haven't tried flies from my Tracker yet. I probably enjoy tying the flies as much as fishing them.

Welcome Cristina Smith. You might start a thread about fishing a Certain place or one about fishing for a certain species of fish in Florida. Good luck to you an your son. You can learn alot from watching you tube videos also. Like tying knots and when to use certain knots. Jigs I use Loop knots

I am not smart enough to know or learn everything there is to know about fishing, but I do enjoy the challenge.

Welcome to the Stage, Christina!

I would highly recommend visiting a FEW smaller bait shops that are nearby. They should be able to tell you what's biting, what terminal rigs (hooks, weights, bait, etc) to use and spots to fish.

The reason that I emphasize "few" is that some sales staffers may try to make their quota off of a newby. Ask them to set you up with the ONE rig that they think will give you the best chances of success. Don't plan on buying anything on your first visit. Hit them all and then go back to the shop that was the most helpful.

Hope this helps!

Welcome aboard all!!
My last girlfriend had an eight year old son who wanted to fish, and lured me in by asking if I could help him! I love helping kids to learn and believe fishing is some of the best therapy! It’s funny but you really realize how much you still have to learn when you start helping the kids. Fun part is learning together, and years later when they are teaching their kids. Have fun, try different stuff, and learn from the locals!

I love Columbia.
I went up there a few weeks ago to look around and have a beer at the saloon and watch an old timer play piano.
My kids loved the stage coach rides, ponies and ice cream.
I never learned to fly fish but I inherited a rod and reel. I’d love to learn.

Hi Jimi,
Do you do any Striper fishing in the Forebay.
My Dad used to go there or the D Dam 2-3 times per week.
We’ve caught nice stripers out of the Forebay.
My Dad was a paving Contractor out of Merced and he loved to fish.
He took all four of us boys fishing and his Grandson’s. My pop left behind quite a fishing Legacy. We all love it.
I plan on fishing LosBanos as soon as the weather calms down a little. I doubt you can even get on San Luis Resevoir
It gets like the ocean and they shut it down.
