I am going to Lake Pend Oreille (Hope) for a week at the end of May and Lake Chelan for the first week of October. I have a motorhome or Cabover Camper w/four wheel drive and 17 foot boat for the time not spent at the two weeks in reserved Condos.
I want to extend both trips for three weeks. I can go the other weeks before, after or before and after my two set dates.
I am looking for suggestions as to places and weeks to go. Please include why, targets, generally detailed locations on the water, example ( banks Lake-Sept. at Spider Rock area for white fish-80 to 120 feet.) if not secret and suggested gear. At this point I am leaning toward Camp Porcupine on the Spokane in June for one week and Potholes for the last week in September.
Where would you go if you had my opportunity. Both big and small lakes will be considered.
I am also looking for smaller water I can drive to, with or without the boat, from our chosen reserved camps, if the wind keeps us off bigger waters.
Current considerations being pondered are the dam end of Lake Roosevelt, Priest lake, and near Steamboat rock in Banks Lake.
Our favorite fish to target on the east side are pike, lake trout, walleye, then very large kokanee and triploids. We also enjoy a day of lake whitefish and burbot when on Banks.. If we are wind restricted to the bank, channel cats to panfish and bullheads are all ok. Bass are of course a given and have also served as a fallback if other fish have lockjaw on past trips.
Thanks for the input Note: my fishing buddy is 80 with bad knees, so no long walks or climbing up and down steep banks.
Once again, Thanks in advance.

May is a good time for Mackinaw (Lake Trout) at Priest Lake. Besides good fishing it is very beautiful and not crowded. Down rigger or drop shot. You will be fishing at 130 feet or more. North side of Bartoo Island always produces for me. The 3 to 8 pound macks are delicious.

The confluence of the Snake and Palouse should be good for channel cats and walleye. There is a KOA across the river at Lyons Ferry. Make sure that the bridge will be open. It was closed when I was down there last week.

Thanks. I will definitely do more research on Priest. Do you have a favorite campground there?

Is that a high current area. My boat is pretty light, though I do have a river anchor that I use in the Skagit River.

Thanks for the input.

Bapa,

It is not a high current area. However, the winds can whip up quite a chop on the Snake.

The Palouse has a wide entrance that gets very shallow further up. In fact one can get a jet boat stuck in the mud. Don't ask me how I know. I wore off the paint from my trolling motor trying to get out. Avoid the middle in the upper end. It's known for its channel cats.

I am going to Lake Pend Oreille (Hope) for a week ... (show quote)

Hi Bear, If this is the lake near Sand Point Idaho, depending on where you are fishing Lake Pend Oreille, bring plenty of anchor rope since it is 1900 feet deep. Also, watch out for submarines, Navy tested models there in past, not sure about today. Good luck. Beautiful, clean clear lake. There is an area not to far from a marina that has some unbelievably beautiful, multi colored flat stones on the shore. I seem to recall it was like a peninsula of land with a bay. Shipped a bunch home that is how unique they were and used for a bath counter top.

I will be staying in Hope on LPO for the holiday week May/June. I already have reservations at a condo. I am hoping to extend that week to 3 weeks, so I am driving my rv and pulling the boat. There is a lot of water between the hwy 2 and hwy 90 mountain passes. I have the same sinarey for the first week of October at Lake Chelan. My only No go is Pot Holes Lake in the spring. The mosquitos in the spring are about unbearable even with the outstanding fishing. Porcupine Bay by the confluence of the Spokane River and Lake Roosevelt will likely take up one week on the first trip and Pot Holes a week on the second trip. Thanks for your input

When you are fishing Roosevelt at that time also try the area called Split Rock. Its on the right side, can't miss it. It would be heading north from where the Spokane River dumps into Roosevelt. Ive fished Roosevelt at least 50 times (used to live in Spokane) and that area has been good for me in May. Don't be surprised if you hook up a 6-8 lb bow. Troll both sides of that rock, lead line 4 colors, dodger with orange kekada fly or muddler minnow green/brown works well. Tie those flies only about 12 inches behind the dodger. Make S curves all along that shore. In other words, troll like a drunken sailor. You can also find walleyes there. Also good is the bay leading into Hawk Creek. Good luck.

Little Pend Oreille chain of smaller lakes on highway 20 between Ione and Colville WA. All 4 lakes connected and beatable. A couple of shallow channels but go slow and no problem. Rainbow, tiger and occasional cutthroat and brook trout. Also various spiny rays ans some teach. I resort on Gilette Lake and state campgrounds on Gilette and Thomas. Other smaller lakes in the area. Been fishing these lakes for over 60 years - not as good as years ago but still bring home fish.

I have fished LPO near Sandpoint in the past. I use a water hook on about 15 feet of chain. It keeps the chain strait down even in a blow
