Fished Bon Tempe lake today with George ( The Bus) Bon Tempe lake sits at the base of Mt. Tamalpais, beautiful little lake. Stocked regularly with rainbow trout. For the day we ended up catching and releasing 14 fish. Majority planters 10 to 12 inches. Largest was 14 inches. Used ultra-lite setups. Majority of the fish were caught on pink & white mouse tails and Inflated night crawlers.Used for the first time the new “Owner Brand” trout Circle hooks. What a great hook for catch & release fishing! All fish that were hooked were either lipped or gill hooked. It allowed for easy releasing of the fish unharmed. I definitely recommend this style of hook for those who practice catch and release.

Sounds like a great day Rich. Nice picture of the hooks, but what happened to the fish?

We really want to get the fish back into the water as soon as possible. Don’t think that holding them up for pics helps that. Just my thinking . I know everyone here loves pics.but after the fight that fish is pretty drained, especially fish of that size. Want to get them back in the water ASAP. Live to fight another day!!!!

Trout are a little less durable I suppose, but many are successful at releasing them after a photo. To each his own.

Also on another note. Took the advice of a fellow stager who posted recently in regards to using the yellow colored braided line. Took his advice but was always Leary of it, thought if I can see it so can the fish! Re-spoiled my reels with it. What a great tip. So much easier to see your line in the water but also to see line movement to detect hits.

Trout are very fragile. I applaud your approach in not taking the photo.

Thanks. Especially the small planters. Although I do enjoy Taking pics of many fish that I have caught and sharing them. I don’t feel trout of that size are worthy of pics. Just my opinion.

Hey Rich. We went out on the Pet all morning and we never got a bite. Trolled most of the time and even soaked bait for a little while. Still nothing. OH well, had a nice time and enjoyed just getting out.
