Hello Robert I recently moved near Byram from TX. Have fished the Ross Barnette spillway a couple times for catfish. Not much luck other than a few small channels. Still learning the patterns, and never fished a spillway before and have already learned I need different gear for this type of fishing. Do you fish the spillway, would really like to pick your brain if so.

I’m thinking the Pelehatchi bay areas is good or even go to Brown’s landing next to Highway 43 for the catfish.

Thanks, I will have to check out those areas soon since the spillway is moving too fast now. Is it pretty crowded at either one of those areas? How often do you catfish?

I have not gone in quite some time now, because I’m involved with repairing my small house boat! Replacing rotten exterior deck, inside ceilings after reroofing it of course! I’m also working 40 hours a week at y job. Not much time for much else until I achieve my personal goals with my houseboat.

Understood, sounds like a lot of work but will be well worth it without a doubt. I have a few projects as well but I do take a day or two every now and again to keep my sanity. A day fishing or going to the shooting range does just that. Wish you luck with the project, when you finish it or just decide a fishing trip is in order to decompress, post a note here and may be I can meet ya out there. No such hing as too many fishin buddies!

Hi ranger Bob welcome to The forum. I would be interested in knowing any information you have on stripers. Any information you can give me about the reservoir or the spillway area that'll help me on my quest

Your might look at the Ross Barnett group on Facebook. There are quite a few folks that post on there. I have been seeing a lot of people fishing below spillway catching limits of nice crappie.

Can you tell me something about the crappie Run down there? I want to know if it is going on or has it past? I enjoy all the excitement going on at the Resovoir during this time

Ditto but from what I have read on that forum; it can get rowdy. Don't know why it has to be that way. I live in Alabama but originally from MS but have property not far where we are building a house. Was planning on doing some fishing at the spillway but think I will pass. Soe dude last week unloaded his boat and proceeded to just go crazy between all the boats. A few people tried to tell him to be respectful but he didn't care. Even when he was putting in his boat he jumped in line. When he pulled out, same thing. Someone told him again to be respectful and he pulled hi gun, held it to the guys head...thank goodness popo showed up quickly and arrested him.
I don't think the main lake is this way.
I probably will not take my boat but may try bank fishing. MS is an open carry state, if you are resident so as usual, my gun will be strapped on.
Don't take this as a bad thing about MS, just that spot.
Tight lines!

Without a doubt the spillway has a nut job here and there when the fishing is good and its tough to find a spot to fish. On the bank or in a boat at times its elbow to elbow. When its like that I don’t waste my time, I go to fish to unwind and enjoy myself.
