My wife caught this thing while fishing for snapper. We looked it up, it says this fish is both poisonous and venomous. Pic quality isn't great, but we were worried about getting stung while handling it.

You got that right it is a scorpion fish and the only poisonous parts are the top spines. Just like the Lionfish we now have, very good to eat just use caution when handling. I carry surgical scissors with me while diving just to cut off the spins then bag'em for cleaning later. Always cut the spins tight to the back. The scorpion fish has a unique fat, and white meat it is very tasty. They also swallow small rocks for helping their digestive system.

Thank you for the pictures.

I've caught many of those fish in the Pacific ocean.
They are called sculpin and scorpion fish.
The dorsal fin spines are very painful if you get stuck by them.
They are very good to eat.
What were you fishing for when you caught it.
