I agree with itchy. My last fishing was seabass out of Jersey.

The head of the Chester River is the closest and best perch destination, from Smyrna. The road that crosses Cedar Creek, in Millington, used to be accessible but is now heavily posted. It is possible to hike the tracks, or go upstream with a canoe from the town landing.

Watch the weather. A warm break in late February will bring large, spawning, yellow perch.

Millington Hardware also sponsors a little tournament.

That wouldn't be too bad from Wilmington either.

Thanks. Ive been fishing the Chester in Millington for over 50 years. Used to be our first fishing trip of the year for yellow perch. Usually the end of February or early March.

How did you do? My last trip was to OC Maryland in October for seabass. Lots of fish but with the new regs we had lots of throwbacks that would of been keepers in 2021.

Fished on an overnight trip. Was a little slow fishing. Got some nice size bass but nowhere near limit catches. Did pretty good on parties too. I'm going to have to try some perch this spring. I've been surf fishing for the last forty years or so. Getting back to fresh water after a long break.

That entrance to the marsh can be tricky with a fast swirling tide but at times can be very good for school size stripers on different plugs.

Think I'll put that one on hold til I. An find someone with some experience in the area. Looks like an area with more than its share of hazards

Ive fished that river from Christiana to the Delaware before. You never know what can be floating in there...ive seen cars sunk behind Duross many years ago. You could only see the tops at low tide..heck they might still be in there.
