Hello Anglers,
Can anyone elaborate on the posted "Do not eat" warnings that are on the Lakes contributed off the Huron River in Michigan? How much longer can we expect to see this?

They should have your new (2023) version out soon, see what it says. Good Luck.

I'm expecting the 2023 surveys to wrap around mid May. I hope a resolution is made, we've been dealing with this for far too long. When our elected politicians decided to lift regulations to poluters that earn record profits, they destroy the Devine given natural resources and a billion dollar fishing industry in the process.

Their decisions rarely benefit the people they supposedly represent. $$$ Follow the money.

Ford put a lot of chemicals in drums, floated them out in the lake on a barge, and dumped them. The drums are now rusting thru and the chemicals are slowing being released. Many other companies have done this, but Ford might have been the first.

I remember that initially. A local was told it was to combat the green algae that produced heavily, probably from the lawn fertilizers. It all seems suspicious, what's in those drums against what's told are in the drums are suspect. Where else has this method of introduction to an ecosystem been used? Like our brother Angler Fredfish wrote: "follow the $"!

It seems to me the advisories are in place to allow those chemicals to weaken to tolerable levels in order to resume consumption of the fish in the restricted waterways. The length of time it has already taken would then suggest the chemicals are pretty harsh. It may take twice as long for fish populations to rebound after the chemical effects dissipate, if ever. Were in for a long ride 🤦🏿

I have to add that a dear friend ignored the advisory warnings and ate the fish in his normal abundance...he is in real bad shape today!

I was (unofficially) told that the current PFAS problem with the Huron River may take years to correct the problem. Apparently a business near Wixom caused the problem about 3 years ago. The same place did the same thing about 5 years before that...supposedly different owners. This is not official, but what I have been told.

Popular story there with a difference of happening more than the 3 yrs ago from when. you heard. Its been around 5 or 6 yrs since I fished Ford and Belleville Lakes. Seems the lobbyists informed the boarding factories of the restrictions being lifted and they got a head start. Whats sad is the Ford Lake walleye had a massive hatchling around that time, 8 pounders were regular catches. Locals were greedy on their limits of gills and it showed quickly. None of that matters now. The home sales began to increase with sellers attempting to get while the getting was good. News teavels and some home sales have suffered from delays or depreciated interests. We seen the effects in 2019 and the next year the advisories posted.

Back in the 1970’s when Lake Erie was declared dead. I remember those days.
