Caught 2 hickory shad on a teaser in the ocean tonight. Saw a surf fisherman catch a keeper striped bass on a big plug in my surf spot when I arrived at the jetty. I found a squid jig in the parking lot. Caught 49 shad recently.

"Saw a surf fisherman catch a keeper striped bass on a big plug in my surf spot when I arrived at the jetty." - I guess he didn't see "NJ219bands" etched into the sand in your "surf spot"! Hate when that happens!

How big are the Hickory running?
Nice parking lot find, I think it might be Mickeys - just squidding...:)

Ever fish the American Shad run on the Delaware in the spring? Lots of fun on light tackle from shore.

Have always wanted to do that but didn't know where to cast from.

I usually fish the run north of the Water Gap during April & May. There are some areas fishable from the shoreline, but waders give you the best chance & “angles”.
Boaters anchor up in the channels & sometimes we have to fish above or below them depending on the situation.
As usual, early & later in the day tends to produce and I’ve found that a water temperature of 50 degrees usually gets them active. Good luck Kandy - you’ll have a blast on light tackle!
