Another day of crabbing, this time with Ben (Fishermanleesonoma) and Hal (Nook). I/we were a little concerned with the marine forecast for the day, 4-5’ wind waves, 15-20 knot winds and gusts to 25 knots, small craft advisory. We baited the pots at the dock and headed out just after sunrise. Bay was relatively calm, good so far, under the gate was good, lighthouse - not bad and then….. it smoothed out to less than a foot of chop, no wind, swells almost nothing. I mean, what the? The whole time we fished it was one of the nicest days I’ve been out. Think I’m going to research for another marine forecast site to use.

We did pretty good, had to work for it, took 3 sets of our 7 pots to get 26 dungies and 13 rock crab. Not complaining, I just got spoiled getting my limits each time on 2 sets. We think maybe our bait was getting a bit stale. Hal was at the wheel and did a fine job of cruising up to the buoys, Ben was the hook man and we both did “pot puller assists” and I set and pulled the pots on board and sorted out the keepers. A good team!

Back at the slip at 12:30!

It was a remarkedly great day out on the ocean blue with 40Grit and FishermanLee. Ben and I are going to have to get to catching those stripers for fresh bait carcasses.
Denny was an awesome host. Treating us to a pleasant boat ride, doing most of the heavy lifting, feeding us chips and cinnamon 40Grit, what's not to like?
Thanks a million Denny. My wife says thanks too after she said she wasn't hungry and then pounded 2 crabs down for dinner. Here's my part of the catch cleaned and cooked in fresh seawater.

Great catching guys! I hear ya Denny, I'd like to find an accurate land forecaster myself. Your conditions look beautiful! Enjoy the feast. Thanks for the great pictures.

Nice trip nice catch y'all. Plus some good eating. I went crabbing a few time but we ran a 1000' line baited with chicken necks. I got good with the net 👍🎣

You will find the ocean forecasts are all just carbon copies of each other predictions from what the buoys at sea have been recording. I am glad you had a great calm day. It is great when it is calmer than forecasted for sure.

I think you may be putting a dent in the number of big crab in your area. You can also feed the area. Take everything you can to feed the area. It is great you have been so successful. Now you have a good location. Makes one wonder if it is a deep spot or what is significant about why there is so many keepers right there.

HoHoho.

Denny is that your Mr Captain Clamp on / CLAMP OFF ritual? Really cool you got the neat boat and all the great times already. Memories are building. Be cool if you make a picture collection of all the success and the air show etc.

Good Job

Thanks Denny!!! It was really nice out there and I thought we did pretty good!!! Was a very nice and fun crabbing trip with Hal and Denny. I was tired and got a nap in before I cooked up the Dungeness Crabs this afternoon!!! They were tasty and Elaine (my lady) and her sister Gretchen (down from Rancho Cordoba visiting for Thanksgiving) both enjoyed eating them. I have to say I really enjoy eating Dungeness Crabs, usually buy them when the season starts but catching your own was a real treat! We have a nice big batch and going to enjoy them tomorrow too!

We certainly try Ranger! We are really lucky to have the bountiful resources of this area available to us, whether it’s fresh or salt water, there’s fun and bounty to be had. I’m very thankful!

You and your wife are very welcome! It was truly my pleasure to host, maybe this trip brought you a step closer to that boat ownership!
