Well guys, we got to the river bout 0830. Got to the fishin grounds bout 0845. Trolled for bout 20 min and I finally hooked up with a heavy fish. It took bout 40 feet of line out before we could get the rod out of the holder.
I was tryin to reel it in and it was takin drag and fightin really hard. Finally, I tightened the drag a little so I could reel it in.
I fought it for bout 2 min and gained close to 100 feet of line. I still had 140 feet of line out when, BAM, it pulled off. I will admit that I said"SON OF A B----". I was really pissed at mysely for doin that. I really know better and I should have played it properly and got it to the boat whenever it was ready. OH WELL.
Started trollin again and bout 10 min later Ben hooks up with one. He's reelin it in and says it doesn't feel like a Striper, just really heavy. Well, he gets it to the boat and pulls up a big Striper and I net it real quick. It no sooner gets into the bottom of the boat and promptly brakes the line bout 2 inches above the lure. Good thing I got it in the net on the first try. It was 28 inches long and bout 7+pounds.
We started trollin again and I hook up with another one and get it in the boat and it's 21 inches so we keep it too.
Start trollin again and couple min later I hook up again but this one was a short.
We've hooked and landed 3 fish within bout 15 to 20 min. and it's only 10am.
We start trollin again but no more fish for the next 30 min. Finally Ben hooks up and lands another short.
It's bout 10:30 and that was the last fish we caught. Had a couple more hits but no takers.
We kept tryin till 1pm and finally called it a day. Got off the water and was home by 2pm.
I took 1 pic of Bens short and then a pic of the keepers.
Gorgeous day but was pretty chilly this morning.
It was 30* when I hooked up to the boat and was a balmy 38* when I got to the launch at 0830.
Thankfully, no wind early. Picked up a little bout noon but wasn't bad.
All in all we had a pretty good day. 5 fish hooked and 4 landed. Two keepers. Fished for 4 hours.

Nice job guys! Sounds like the big one got away buddy, so the cursing is perfectly understandable. (I'm worse). Glad you got a couple keepers for dinner. Nice action shot Steve, thanks for the pictures.

Hey SAW, got a question. I have several nice Shimano bait casting reels with the line counter option that I use for fresh water trolling for trout. Iโ€™m gonna pick up a new one a size or two bigger for striper trolling. The line counter takes the guesstimating out of the equation. My question: what type of line do u use, mono or braided, and what pound test. Thanks๐Ÿ‘

Nice day guys, congrats!
Funny how quite often the first fish is the biggest, before you have your wits about youโ€ฆ
My Dadโ€™s version was โ€œSunken Ditch!โ€
My Uncleโ€™s property in Northern WI was labeled Sunova Beach
Even as a little tyke I knew what they were referring to ๐Ÿ˜‰

Funny. I usually don't get upset over losin a fish but I knew it was MY fault for losin that one yesterday and I was very frustrated at myself.
However, I do have a tendency to get upset when I lose a LURE. Guess I'm just cheap. It doesn't matter how many fish I've already caught on that lure, I just don't like to lose one.
