Surf Fishing Strikeout

Hello everyone,
I live in Huntington Beach CA. I have taken up surf fishing to try and stay fishing while not spending money and to stay active. I truly love just having a line in the water but it sure would be nice to catch a few more fish. I have had a tough time so if any one has any ideas of good areas or ideas of how I could possibly hook a few fish in my area Iwould really appreciate it. I have been using a dropshot rig and swimbaits in Newport on the jetty. Also from shore in Huntington. Thanks for any advice you have to give.

From shore- carolina rig, gulp camo sand worm, enought weight to semi hold bottom. Fish deeper channels " nervous water". Fish all the way back to waters edge.

Foodfisher uses the same setup I often use in the surf, though I am fishing much further north. When I fished California, I usually used sand crabs/flees. That was before Gulp Alive sand worms were on the scene. In the rocks, my brother does pretty well with chunks of squid near Irvine. He told me things are a lot slower in the winter.

If I get a chance to fish down there again, I would like to try Gulp Alive 4 inch chartreuse mullet. They are a killer here on flatfish.

I just started reading "Surf Fishing" by Bill Varney Jr. It looks like it will be a good resource and should have some ideas for you. I bought mine off ebay.

The Bill Varney book is some very good info. He knows what's going on. There are also some good YouTube videos
on how to read the surf. Ten percent of the fishermen catch 90 percent of the fish. Read the water and catch the fish.
