SG, I'm not from that area and know nothing about Caney Creek but crappie will act the same almost anywhere. Depending on the size of your waters Crappie will be moving toward their spawning grounds but will be in deep water this time of year. If you have spawning flats in you water look for the deepest holes close to those flats. They will school up in this type area and normally be found close to some type structure. Dead falls in deep holes are a good place to start looking. or if there's docks they will suspend under and around docks. Crappie are low light feeders so you want to look for shaded areas or spots where they can get behind of under something that cast shade, a tree limb or dock pontoon or even weeds if there's enough shade to shade their eyes . Crappie feed up, meaning they take a bait just above them and sometimes if you're a foot deeper than them they won't bite, move that bait up a foot and bam you got them. If I'm searching I like to use a slip float if using live bait so you can easily change your depth or tight line with artificial. If you find one at a certain depth you can just about bet there'll be more at that depth. Crappie suspend a lot so you may be fishing in 10 or 20 ft of water and find the fish in 5 to 10 foot. The lake I fish they normally set up over around 20 feet of water and be suspended in 10 to 12 ft. Keep moving your depth up and down and drop around blow downs or docks in deep holes. If I knew more about the water you're fishing I could tell you a little more but that's a starter, hope it helps put you on some fish.

I really appreciate your input. Sticking to the basics certainly helps to locate the fish. Thanks again

There are only about 20 "Caney Creek, AR" places, lol. It has been years since I lived in AR, and I fished mainly in the South. Lake Columbia (by Magnolia) and Lake Erling (closer to Springhill, LA) were always great. We also fished backwaters off the Arkansas River by the Pendleton bridge and would limit on 1 to 1.5 pound slabs.
