Have any of you used these for launching or landing your boat on/off the trailer? It looks like a great idea to cut down on the climbing in and out of the boat.

Hi Fred,
It is a mechanical device that replaces the front roller on your trailer. It has a latch to secure the bow onto the trailer. It also has a lever to release the latch (you can attach a rope to it) from the back of the boat so you can back off the trailer without getting in the water (as I currently do).
You can also load the boat after the trip by just driving onto the trailer and listen for the latch to catch. If you have a partner in the truck they can pull you straight out.
It looks like it could make life a little simpler.
I will try to attach a link to a video.
Sorry all, I suck at attaching links. The one I am referring to is the Drotto catch and release unit. I believe there are similar units out there. I will keep trying…

I have a good fishing buddy, that has 5 boats and he has two of his trailers with them on. He likes them, but he can't spend all of his money. I have never asked him what they cost, but he said that they are the "clear deal".

They are about $320
One of those and a set of steps to descend off the rig without slipping off the trailer or having to try to stick the landing after a pommel horse type dismount should be a great upgrade and may help folks fishing for a few extra years at least!
I have seen similar latches OJ, I think BPS used to sell one. Should work good if you drive on and off the trailer. Unfortunately my little 25hp won't push or pull the boat on or off the trailer. Also doesn't have power trim and tilt, so driving on and off wouldn't work if I could. Some ramps don't allow doing it either, due to erosion at the end of the paved ramp. Some people don't trim their motor up enough, and blow out all the dirt after the pavement. Bantam Lake is like that, a 2ft drop at the end of the ramp. Since the water level varies a lot, it makes launching and retrieval an adventure.
I don't have one. I see a lot of them when I fish South Dakota. They seem to love them.

OJ I thought about putting one on my roller trailer yrs ago. Heard good n bad things about the unit bass pro sold at the time. May worry was if the latch malfunctioned it would be a big problem. 2,nd you need to hit the right approach to line up so it line up properly. Maybe it's been refined. It would be nice 👍

I am with you Grizz, but I would also use the safety chain (if possible) for towing. I was mostly interested in launching and landing.
I also added after-market guides for windy launches.

A friend has one on his 15 whaler. Swears by it.
My brother put one on his boat. He’s pushing 70 and loves not having to do the climbing in and out.
OJdidit, I put one on my roller trailer two years ago, I have a 1775 Lund. I love it, and will always have one. I can't speak for the Bunk trailers.
