When I'm not fishing,I like to research fishing and recently came across some sites about Burbot(freshwater lingcod)A fish not often targeted but supposedly very tasty. In my research I've seen a few larger deeper lakes like Banks lake and Lake Chelan,Kachess and Cle Ellum have burbot.I'm looking for any information on techniques, bait, depth and good spots to fish for burbot.I have plans already to hit Banks lake in early May for walleye and bass around Jones bay by Steamboat Rock.Any pointers from my fishing brothers out here would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen the first link, the second one helps on bait, depth and evenings, thanks.I'm hoping to get some of that firsthand info like I'll put out there for salmon in Puget Sound,120'-200' water depth right on the line dividing areas 8-2 and 9 east side in front of shipwreck, trolling a light green skirted squid about 40' to 100' deep. That put about a dozen nice salmon (coho) in my boat this last fall.

This is a YouTube video of a "successful" burbot fisherman.

I fish the same area but caught most of my fish trolling 100-150' runing south of the bouy along the outer edge of possession bar with a uv squid with a small trailer squid on the back hook. I did catch a lot of coho but most of them didn't have a clip fin so had to toss them back. I caught more wild coho and king than I have caught in the past several years maybe this means the wild are starting to recover or they just are not clipping all the fins

I know that area pretty well, got a couple nice kings south of that bouy, also caught a butt ton of dogfish when I used cutplug herring, If this next season goes as well as last falls,I may never buy a pack of herring again,at least when trolling.

I have given up on herring for that area as you say the dogfish seem to get it before the salmon. I do just as good with squid or spoons and if I need it with scent. I like that bloody tuna scent. I think with next year being an even number year and no pink run that they will most likely close off area 8-2 again which means it will be an area 9 year. In the summer months usually area 9 is safe enough for me to go out in my 16' boat but still can get dicey at times if the wind picks up. I am looking forward to the mid July king season again this year and hope we get a 4 week season before closeing

Maybe we'll cross lines out there(preferably not literally)I have a 16' blue Duraboat with a T-top,major upgrade to the shallow sided 14'crestliner I used before. If you see this boat out there, feel free to pull up alongside and say hello. Its probably the only boat out there with a blue mechanics grade tool box mounted on the port side

They, consistently, only clip about 30% of the hatchery fish they release not the wild.

Those are great boats. I had one about like it and it was, without a doubt, the best all around boat I should have never parted with. Mine was blue too. That brings back some good memories.

I'm glad a friend gave me first crack at it when he was looking to upsize.been using this off season to make some upgrades. Hillbilly fabricated the aluminum plates to reinforce the toolbox and steering console connection to gunwales.New plywood deck,New captains chairs and used rear aluminum bench for a fishwell in the bow bench

When you give Banks Lake a try, you might also consider fishing for white fish. They are also very good eating. Look up North West Fishing Report. It is worth joining at no cost for more detailed information. It has some great videos on both Burbot and White fish. As previously mentioned, WDFG also has some good instruction and videos on both fish. You can use the same rod, reel and line for both. Good luck. I can barley wait to get over there myself. Just an FYI, The confluence of the Spokane and Lake Roosevelt is supposed to be good burbot fishing. There will be info on NWFR

Thanks for the info bapa,I do like the idea of not targeting just one or two species,Think before I try Roosevelt I want a map of public/indian areas so I don't fish in the wrong spots. That could ruin a fishing trip real quick.
