My name is Jerry Roundtree and I moved to Cleo Springs about a year ago from Arizona. I am interested in catfishing, but I'm new at it and would appreciate some tips to fishing Canton Lake or anywhere in northwest
Oklahoma. I'd like even more for a mentor to teach me the ropes. I'm a semiretired veterinarian enjoying a
small farm in Cleo. My wife and I love it here. Can't wait to start catching catfish!

Welcome to the stage Jerry sorry don't know that area. I use night crawlers or fresh chicken liver on the bottom for cats. If I'm trying for a big flathead I'll use live bluegills for bait just make sure it's legal in your area. All kinds of great videos on YouTube. I would just search cat fishing in whatever lake you're wanting to fish in and then go from there. They'll show different catfish rigs also. Good luck fishing share pics when you can👍 talk to local bait shops also 👍 A lot of people like wide mouth circlehooks but you gotta remember not to set the hook you just let the line get tight and then just reeled in real fast.

Welcome to Stage I just joined. I live in the Texarkana, TX area and have used yoyos tied to tree limbs for both catfish and crappie. Crappie we use minnows and for catfish we use Catfish Charlie 14 oz. Blood B Catfish Dough Bait. Roll the Catfish Charlie into about quarter size balls. I also use Catfish Charlie for noodles I have made myself. Whitey is on point to use bluegills for flatheads or large minnows. I've had good luck with hot dogs for channel cats.
I did check the Oklahoma Fishing regs these are legal at this time., which you check before using any of these techniques in case they change from year to year. Have fun!!

Good mornin', Jerry, welcome to the Forum. Sorry, I don't fish for cat but I do catch them once in a while when fishing for walleye. Good luck.

Welcome Jerry! I use worms or shrimp for cats. Did the best with worms. I use a crappie rig on the bottom. Unfortunately I have no useful info for your area. Hit quote reply when you respond to someone then we all know who’s talking to who.

Howdy Jerry. Welcome to the forum. Before I retired & moved to NE Oklahoma I lived & worked in the western part of the state & I fished Canton fairly often. I've also taken some nice deer from the Canton wildlife area. We would drift with minnows near bottom for walleye & would most always pick up some nice catfish. I love catfishing but I never set out my jug lines or deliberately fished for them. Canton holds a good population of Crappie & Bluegill so I pestered them. On your computer go to wildlifedepartment.com which is the official state website & sign up for free weekly fishing reports. You'll find out what's biting & what bait. Tight lines.
