Welcome coach Mo. Been fishing Fork for many years, usually March & early April. We fish for crappie mostly. Tight lines.

He probably meant to say 6 feet, because that is about what the level is now due to repairs on the dam. Sabine River Authority drained it the last several weeks.

OH, that would make more sense. "Never mind. "

I took a round about way home from my sister's funeral in Mississippi & drove Interstate 10 from Gulfport, Ms to Beaumont, TX. At Beaumont I went north to Toledo Bend Reservior. It too was super low. I drove on north to Broken Bow Reservior in SE Oklahoma & found it the lowest I have ever seen. The Corps of Engineers usually lower's our local lake, Tenkiller, in order to be ready for the spring rains but it too is drawn way down. When we crossed the Red River at the Texas Oklahoma border it was running hard which means the gates on Lake Texoma are open so the Corps may be lowering it also. There would be some excellent striper fishing below Texoma dam right now. I stopped at a pawn shop in Gulfport, Mississippi & bought a Shimano Calcutta 100 reel in excellent condition. I've been looking for one for some time. It made me feel a little better about the trip. Tight lines.

As a fellow angler, my sympathies for the loss of your sister. I remember the many fun times with my sister.

Wonder why so any bodies of water are being drained or just naturally low? Its not like we are being flooded out?

BTW, that's a really good reel. I have several and the forerunners, the Shimano Curado's. Like 25 to 30 years old and still work well.

Hello runandgun. Thank you. She was the 1st of the 6 of us kids to cross the great divide. That girl loved to fish. I always see the local lakes drawn down by March but never this early. The Arkansas River is only 20 miles from here & all the dammed up lakes on it are always drawn down as so many Corps lakes drain into it. Maybe the Corps thinks this will be a year of heavy spring rains. We get no snow so there's no snow melt. I personally prefer the round baitcasters. I have Shimano Curado's, Abu revo's & Diawa Tatula's but I seldom use them. I have several Calcutta 200's & they are my go to reels. I had 1 Calcutta 100 & the smaller size seemed comfortable on an all day outing. I wanted another but those 100's when I found them were pricey. I just went in this pawn shop on a whim & there the reel was mated to a 7 ft Jordan Lee rod by Abu Garcia. $40 out the door was a bonified steel. I couldn't be happier. The rod is a medium heavy so I'll probably switch it out for a medium action rod. Tight lines.

Howdy Saw. You know the old Iranian saying "even a blind pig finds a nut once in a while". I was just lucky. Now if I could just get the dealership to get my boat fixed I could try that reel out. I think a month & half is long enough to replace the windshield over my console. Tight lines.
