I recently joined up with this outfit and I gotta say that this site is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. You guys and gals really crack me up, in addition to having good fishing advice. I relocated to the Southwest from Alaska and I am totally new to these fish and how to catch them. But not new to fishing. I am wintering at the LTVA in Winterhaven, CA. We have the Colorado river and all of its backwaters, plus all of the canals that flow around here. Seeking any tips or advice you can send my way. Thanks in advance. Happy Fishing Everyone!

Welcome DC

Now that is a weather change.

Do you clean fish with a Hulu knife?

Be sure the lure, jig, spinner or live bait land in water for the best chance of catching a fish. Lol.
Happy fishing

Native Alaskans use Hulu.

Was curious if you did.

After some thought, I believe you meant Ulu knife. And yes, those knives are incredible once you get used to them. I watch 2 Inuit woman dress a thousand pound moose in about a half an hour! They do fish even faster. But alas, I'm just a poor white boy with a filet knife.

I've fished out there in those canals between the Salton Sea and the Chocolate Mountains. Some pretty frisky bass in there. That was a while ago, bout 40 years. Dose the S. Sea still have fish in it? Used to be able to catch corvina. Couldn't eat them though.

Cool. I just cast my line out in the street. Can't wait! Should I get the skillet hot now, or wait a bit?

You are asking the wrong guy. Hence "new kid in town". But I know this; I only target fish that I'm going to eat! And I can eat a lot of fish.
