Q5: Sorry Lad, but I am a far distance from the Sacramento River. I wish I was there to fish with you. There should be some members who are residents of California along who do know what and were, with the type lures most effective.

I would recommend asking any local fishermen about their recommendations as to lures, and possible places. Just Sayin...RJS

I use Mulkies spinners here in Oregon for salmon. That I am sure would work the same in Ca. I like the gold blade with a pink (hoochy) squid and I put scent in the hoochy.

Rattle traps for stripers. Kwik fish with a anchovy wrap for salmon.

I've never fished for stripers or salmon, but rattle traps do work for trout and reds in the Gulf. Just Sayin...RJS

I agree with Spirit. Also try a Kwik fish with a crawdad wrap for salmon. Not as popular, but works good. It's a little late for Salmon in the Freeport area.

I fish the Freeport area. Had some luck earlier this summer trolling with deep diving lures. Lately, the only thing we are getting hits on are the finesse rigs, specifically the Texas and Ned rigs, and even then it' spotted bass not the stripers. I've tried throwing lipless crankbaits but with no luck, but I don't think I'm working them right with the river current. Nothing on cut bait at all. Hope this helps.

Fish that area regularly all of the above work for salmon although nobody mentioned the brads cut plug. This is a good set up as well using a flasher. You can Google it to get this set up. The late fall run is just starting, so there’s still an opportunity to land one! Good luck out there !
