A sales person in a Bass Pro indicated that if you changed the hooks on crankbaits or top water lures to red hooks, you would increase your catch numbers. Just wondering what anglers on the forum felt about this concept. I appreciate any and all comments.

Run you'll get ya n na on this one. I have placed one red hook on some crankbaits. Can't say I noticed a difference one way or the other. Supposedly red on anything indicates a wounded fish n triggers a strike 👍

No proof one way or the other from me, but some companies use a red belly hook on their crankbaits.
Rattle Trap paints blood on some of their models.

I like to throw luckycraft minnows in the surf - they are excellent fish catchers. But I don't like the hooks they come with, so I usually change em out with red gamakatsus. They are still excellent fish catchers. I don't know that they're any better.

I use red hooks on my Kokanee wedding rings and feel they have increased hook ups…🐟on

There you go! One in about five believe red hooks are better fish catchers. If you have the time and money, you might become part of the testing of the experiment. I have at random times, used red hooks, but have never noticed any difference! Do red hooks catch more fish? Just Sayin....RJS

RJ, how do you like Round Rock, TX? I lived and graduated there in 1961. A whopping 40 kids in my class.

Anyway, my wife and I do occasionally make comparison tests. We fish about the same. No need to change the reels as she casts as well as I do. What we need is to run into a situation where the fish are really actively biting and see if there is a difference. It will take some time to collect the numbers so we will see how this all goes.

Meanwhile, other anglers might consider doing the same.

And it will take a while for me to change the hooks on baits and will probably have to purchase identical baits to make sure as much as possible that the red hooks are the difference. It's a real PITA to change them as my eyes are not so good now.

All for now; take care.

Runandgun: Well, we've only been here since August 17th, so have not had a lot of experience, good or bad. We have chosen to live in independent living quarters, Parkwood Meadows on Chisholm Trail Road.

We have chosen to join Pflugerville First Baptist Church. I am visiting the Rotary Club of Round Rock, and also the Aggies have invited me to attend their functions. I didn't even know they knew I had moved here.

We are here because I have two daughters in the area with 4 grandchildren of various ages. Yes, I miss Houston because we lived there in one place for over 30 years, but this makes more sense given our advanced age. You have to prepare for the end. Just Sayin...RJS

So what fish are you targeting? And are they color sensitive. Do they go for bait or bait similar lures. I know that with Kokanee colors are an attraction and their not looking for bait they’re attacking predators…so the better the attraction the better the odds of hookups…🐟on

Ahhh, that’s what I was thinking. I haven’t fished for bass since I was a kid and things have surly changed. Since joining the stage and reading about all the bass fishing that the guys are doing I’m hoping to dabble in it in the spring…🐟on

The color red has me bewildered, line people say the red line in almost invisible in the water, but hook people say it turn fish on. I did a test one summer with using ice fishing hooks and let wife use gold or black. It increased my bites, but just about kicked me out of boat and house when I told her what I had done. Just done it one season, can't figure why she was upset.

Presentation is the biggest factor in catching fish the right presentation can entice fish that are not feeding into stricking
