Ordered a $ 140 St. Croix rod. USPS delivered it. Packaging broken in half, rod also broken in half. Ordered through Amazon with a private shipper. Have lost my email which said delivery was late. Anyone know what I should do about this ? USPS or Amazon ?

Ouch, if you have the tracking info (shipping label) I would start with USPS as I doubt it looked like that when they picked it up, or at least I hope not. Someone owes you a rod. One step at a time…

If it was insured the Post office should pay to replace it, if not try Amazon. Or stop payment to the seller.

Amazon should contact both seller and shipper. Good luck! Don't give up.

That sucks, I'll tell you what I did. I ordered two rod blanks and the components needed to build two custom rods for clients. They were delivered, not sure by whom, Fed Ex or UPS. The blanks were ordered from Mud Hole in FL. They arrived with the box broken and also the rod blanks broke. I called Mud Hole and they told me to send them some pictures, like a dozen, of the broken shipping box and the broken rods as they arrived. This can be done over the computer. Mud Hole sent me two new rods, and they went after whoever shipped them. So, I would start with Amazon. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Your order list on Amazon might have the details.

If they were sent Priority without extra insurance there is $50.00 insurance, the sender needs to file a claim. Long packages like that have trouble making the corners on the machines, then following packages put pressure on it,causing the damage. Definitely take pictures and contact the shipper, Amazon is pretty good about replacement. Don't throw anything away, you may have to take it to your local Post Office for damage verification. I am a Postmaster, and that is how claims are handled. PM me if you need any help.

Good luck....you'll be dead before the postal service does anything. A long tube like that won't ever go on a machine, it will be separated and sent to the manual aisle and processed by hand. I did 21 yrs with the postal service

If USPS receives it broken or if they break it they will deliver it broken

I had a rod delivered broken. Contacted Amazon right away and they sent me a return label and credited my account after asking if I wanted my money or a replacement. I was out a box though.

Won’t they put a “received damaged” sticker on it to cover their butts, though? If in case they didn’t do it…

Sure they will but where would you think it happened? The sender didn't ship it damaged, postal service wouldn't take it

Most companies charge a substantial fee to ship a rod and most don't use USPS. They use UPS or FEDX
