Trouble with casting/line slack

I’m fishing a 15 pound fluorocarbon on a spinner reel. when i cast it doesn’t feel like it flys as far as momentum alone should carry it. it also tends to spring off in groups and twist up on the way out. it’s been on there for a good bit, so unless memory holds a lot longer than i think it does on 15 pound (my ten pound line did something similar but fixed itself quick). is there something i could improve on technique-wise, or something i could do to my gear?

I personally don’t like fluro on a spinning reel, tried it once a few years ago so maybe my experience is a bit limited. Quite possibly the new polymers are a bit more manageable. Have no problem with fluro leader on a baitcasting rig but I avoid it on spinning reels.

You might consider removing the Fluro line and replacing it with braid or Mono. If you choose braid, remember it is about 1/3 the diameter as Mono for the same strength. I always compensate by using a higher test braid because I found that a very small diameter line causes a serious problem (for me) and so put on 45 to 50 lb braid and then tie on a leader of Fluro of 10 to 12 lb. strength. Just Sayin...RJS

Go with 20lb braid on a spinning reel and you’ll cast a country mile. My preference would be Suffix 832

I agree. Mono is much nicer and doesn't tend to tangle up so much. Still use Trilene XL for mono, on spinning reels. Way less memory. Does have an awful lot of stretch though. Can compensate somewhat with very firm hooksets, but tough to detect subtle bites in time.

I don't use fluro but maybe squirting the line with something like Reel Magic will help loose the line memory like I said I don't use floro but I use the REAL Magic on my mono and it improves the line drastically
