Rup219: My best advice for you is to spend some time hanging around that area and get to know some of the locals. Also the bait shops, tackle shops, and such. If you can afford it hire a guide for half day. The cost of a guide will be more than worth it, in that he will be able to answer more questions of time, tide, and bait to use than you will be able to glean by any other means, which shorten your learning curve immensly. There's a couple of guys up in that area that can help you out. You could try Kandy also, she fishes there sometimes too. I work it a little further south, haven't been to the hook in years.

Call Cancun Pete at Atlantic Bait and Tackle, Rte 36, Middletown. He'll have the latest info.
I can tell you small stripers are in the wash and occasionally blues will chase bait fish towards the shore but that is hit or miss. No parking problems since Labor Day at the hook. Lot of anglers park at Ship Ahoy and work the Sea Bright beach northwards.

There is a fishing area labeled with a sign. They have submerged wrecks and such to attract fish. I wouldn't swim there and first time don't use any expensive lures. Fished there ac couple months ago and lost my two best fluke rigs. Hung up.

Thanks all - new to this site. Good stuff

Had used stripersurf for years but site not opening for me today. Wanted to read local surf reports…

Haven’t fished the surf in a few years

Does anyone have news on migration or ocean temps projecting fall fishing peak season this year?

Thanks.

I’ll be researching and will share here as well.

A few guys are still swimming in Sea Bright. Water isn't cold enough yet to get the stripers moving south from New England.

Thanks. I’ll be checking water temps as well as activity north of me.

Cheers!
