I'd always heard if a catfish sticks you then you can rub the slime off the belly onto the wound to make it stop stinging. I'm here to tell you it works!! I got barbed pretty good and It stopped stinging as soon as I rubbed it on the slime from the fish. Tight lines!!

So if I cut myself with a knife and rub my blood around on it I won't need stitches?

Sounds like a good idea. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out. Don't forget pictures.

When I get a good stab from a Bullhead or Catfish it usually stops throbbing about the same time I run out of vocabulary expressing myself !

Haaaaaahaaaaa! I love it! Your reply was f’n funny as hell. I’m still laughing and probably will, every time I think about it. I’m a nurse and you can believe it when I tell you you that that’s what I’m going to recommend next time someone is cut and requires sutures. You’re hilarious. Thanks for your funny that caused an outburst of me laugh long time.

There you go make sure you push that bacteria loaded slime into the hole in your hand. That goes along with peeing on a catfish "sting". Now if I told you squeeze the poop out of the cat that "stung" you and smear it in the hole in your hand you'd do it right! I'm sorry 😐 I have to call fish tale on this!

Sorry FF. I too heard that a LONG time ago and it works for catfish. Wonder if it would work for Stripers too. Hmmmm. I get finned EVERYTIME I go striper fishin. You can't help it. They just flop around TOO much not to.
I believe I'll try it Saturday when we're out next.

Saw, I was also told that as well. Also told you should pee on it. Call any doctor or Google it. There isn't anyone with professional knowledge that supports doing that. I got stabbed by a cat some years ago and it was bleeding enough and it wouldn't stop. I went to family's doctor and he almost fell out of his chair laughing when I told him that I rubbed slime on it. He got the nurse to clean my throbbing hand with hydrogen peroxide of all thing! I got a 30 minute lecture on some wives tale were not home remedies. Since I carry a small bottle of peroxide in my first aid kit. Do as you wish but educate yourself first.

I suppose if you got finned bad enough that you couldn't stop the bleeding that the slime trick probly wouldn't help.
I was talkin bout where you get stuck and it just hurts and isn't very serious.

I worked on a Gouper fishing boat fishing and I crewed. This old captain insisted at the end of each day whoever was crewing washed their hands with peroxide before being down. Hardheaded me didn't do it ONE time the next morning both my hands were swollen and painful. It wore off thru the day but I learned. Even Red Grouper, Vermilion Snapper, Gray Triggerfish, Black Grouper, Squirrel, ect, ect all have slime covering their bodies and when introduced into the human body isn't good. That's 77 years of experience speaking.
