I’ve rented a bass boat for my husband’s 60th birthday. The boat is at Holly Creek marina and would love some advice on where to go and what lure to use to help him have a terrific day.

Modm, most likely the marina will be able to assist you. If he is a fisher already he most likely already has his go to lure. Maybe some live bait instead.

Thank you. He fishes once or twice a year. Will the marina give out hot spit secrets?

Mother of Dragon Master: Short answer, probably not! But ask anyways. Even if they tell you were to go, I would take the information with a 'grain of salt'. I would suggest if he is going after bass, to have a frog, another topwater, and then diving lure, and finally have a Texas rig with an assortment of plastic worms. that covers all depths and he can decide how he wants to spend his time. Your rental boat is out of Holly Creek. If this trip is between now and Thanksgiving he can catch largemouths in the back 1/2 of Holly Creek, Galton Hollow, and up to Poor Creek. The lake is famous for big small mouth bass. For that species he really needs to move out of the creeks and more adjacent to the main river, or main lake areas. The long peninsula straight across from the mouth of Holly Creek can have some fish. It just way out into the lake pointing kind of northwest. So if there is any wind from the south or north the waves hit against this area. Have him try the breezy side and focus on the steeper rocky parts. Ignore the sandy or mud stretches.

Ok, main rocky points, or mouth of creeks coves for small out. Spinnerbaits, small green craw looking jigs and small craw looking crank baits.

In back parts of these creeks go to the bushes and trees with Texas rigged plastic craws or brush hogs. If it’s cloudy rainy use spinnerbaits in both areas reeling pretty fast.

If you’re not familiar with these names/ lure types you can google all of it. Or call me 661-313-9983. Tim Miller

Thank you. Is fishing in the rain miserable, or good fishing?

With decent rain suit and staying comfortable it’s not bad. The more clouds, breeze, rain the better the fishing can be to get the fish more active. Think about a swimming pool. When it’s calm and sunny you can see everything on the bottom. If it’s a breezy rainy day it’s hard to see in the water. For bass they can be mor3 difficult to catch when they can see everything vs stormy weather. Plus the wind disorientated the small fish bass eat. They are more vulnerable and the bass know it and hunt aggressively.

Have good rain gear and right layers under it. Throw the spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, crank baits more in those conditions
