Welcome to the Forum, Kmertes, we have a few members from the great state of AK, but I don't think we have any from Homer.
Welcome to the stage, my friend. Do you live in Homer? I lived in Sodotna, Kenai, and Anchorage, and always heard the fishing was very good in Homer.
Hi. Our Homer charter cancelled due to weather and I was wondering about shore fishing but we are heading to Coopers Landing to fish the Kenai
Throw lures from the bank in front of the hotel. If their bitting you can catch a variety of fish from lingcod to dolly varden.
Visited Homer in 1995, interesting place, great fishing, cool people. Wish I had bought a second T-shirt, since the first has been relegated to the carwash bag of cloth scraps. The shirt stated the best sentiment, best slogan for a small town, ever....."Homer Alaska...A SMALL DRINKING VILLAGE WITH A FISHING PROBLEM"......I will attest to that factoid being accurate.
Need to go back up there to improve my halibut PB....a measly 39lbs (still the heaviest non-catfish catch I have made in 60+ years).
Those tshirts are everywhere!
The only t-shirt phrase that even comes close, is one that a small group of us residing in Ashland, Or.(that did NOT depend on visitors/tourists for our livelihood) embraced long ago.....
"How come they call it Tourist Season, if we're not allowed to hunt 'em ?"
Not original, but oh so apropos if you wish to go out to dinner downtown.... gotta eat after 7:45pm... after the "Shakespeare crowd" is flooding into the various theaters before "curtain time"...... still gonna have to park 3 blocks away from the restaurant !
(In a "normal year", our small town of ~18,000 gets 300k-400k tourists, visiting throughout the season (April-October)in order to attend the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, along with the many other "live theater" venues (5?, 7?). We have always considered Halloween as the "take-back-our-town" holiday.
