I've been fishing since I was 3 yeas old. 76 years...Most of it in N. E. Florida. Last few years we killed 'em. This year has been a bummer. Fresh water...1-2 bass. 3-4 specks, bream, etc. but no size and numbers at all.

Salt water...mostly the same. Smatt bait fish, a few specks, a couple of flounders (mostly dinks).

I ain't your regular fisher guy. Lots of tournaments, outtdoor video and film producer for 30 years. I KNOW WHICH END OF A POLE TO HOLD!

What the heck is going on. Is it water temps? Crazy tidal flows? Not holdiing my mouth right? Maybe leave the lod gal at home??? NAH! She would divorce me and take my money!

Any suggestions? We like to fish aroudn the jeties, Salt Run, ICW north and South. Launch close tothe fishing spots and easy in and out becausde of our age. HELP US!!!!! Please!

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I haven't caught a decent striper in bluefish in a couple of years.

Welcome both of you to the stage. For starters, change your screen name. šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ Take a chartered trip. Half day trips could help you see what has changed. Are you in an area affected by the red tide weā€™ve been hearing about?

If you killed them the last few years, youā€™re doing better than me. If you figure it out please let me know. Good luck out there!

Welcome to the Forum, Jake n Kathie, it's definitely the way you have been holding your mouth. What you need to do is go to the edge of the water and take a pee, when the fish come up to eat the pee, grap it.

Welcome J&K I can give you a numbered list of excuses or reasons for skunk days, if that will help. Then you can just list the appropriate number and we'll all know the pertinent data. Truth be told, we will fish anyway and know we had a better day than the guy who didn't get to go out. But it is true, the water here in the Laguna Madre of South-Texas is still at mid-summer temps and the fishing is way off. But what is also true is that the spring spawn which started late after a devastating freeze went on and on for 4-6 weeks longer than normal for speckled trout. The red's that are started out to the gulf are so big and fat from lounging around in the flats and chasing mullet they will be a hazard to navigation next year (or so). And we'll go fishing. We always do.

Youā€™re not alone. I fish off Anclote Keys (midway down the West Coast of the Florida peninsula) I have to go out 12-15 miles to get off the ledge that runs the full length of Floridaā€™s West Coast. I like to fish 22-30 ft. deep and until the last 2 months, caught lots of fish. Mostly grunts, Jacks, Porgies and every now and then a Mackerel or a Trout.
The last two months, I havenā€™t even caught any little fish.
I fish Tarpon Springs for my fresh water fishing but I havenā€™t been able to find fish there.
I was told that even low levels of Red Tide deplete the oxygen supply in Salt Water and the fish leave.
Iā€™ve only lived in Florida 2 years and Iā€™m still trying to figure things out.

After reading all of the above answers...I can honestly say that we are going through some big changes that can only be cured with drastic measures and I really don't think that will ever happen because not enough folks in this great country of ours will be willing to give what it will take to fix it.

If it doesn't get fixed, we will be trying to answer questions like "Hey gramps...what does a trout (bass, bream, crappie, etc) look like?"

Food for thought?
