Hello fellow fishermen. I am new to this site and hope to get to know many.
Name is Mark. I currently reside in Southern CA. Moving to Idaho. I have hunted Pocatello several times with friends who live in Pocatello. In fact my father had a heart attach after hunting a day in Malad Summit. He passed a short time later. I was moving my family to Pocatello in 2007 but I was injured in line of duty and subsequently have had even surgeries, fusing back and taking out a couple ribs etc. So, Now I am wanting to move to a slower environment with great fishing. I am on fixed income so I want someplace affordable. California really sucks. I loved it when young but it has been destroyed. Trash, litter, graffiti mar our resources. I am an Eagle Scout and with my father's guidance I learned to live within and sustain our wildlife and environment.
I am looking at Pocatello to move, but still open. Any suggestions on good fishing for a guy that can not hike anymore, would be shore bound until I get a new boat. I like to catch nice sized fish, who doesn't lol. Salmon, kokanee, lake trout, cutthroats, browns. All great. I look forward to suggestions for great places for retirement and fishing. town has to be big enough to make my wife happy and have EMS as my daughter is a Paramedic. thanks, Mark
What was your "line of duty " Mark? Sorry to hear about that. Sorry you think California sucks. Welcome to the Stage and good luck in Idaho.
Welcome. There are a few in Idaho that should be able to help out.
Welcome Mark. You’ve come to the right place for tips and talk.
Hey Mark, I'm in Blackfoot near Pocy. So I vote here. However, The Kokanee aren't that big here generally. At Ririe, near Idaho Falls, this year the Two year old Koks were around 14". And that is bigger then usual. But it was easy to get a 15 fish limit. American Falls Resivore is great for big trout and small mouth bass. Then there is the Snake River.
If you don't ice fish, you should take that up. The last two years we have got on the ice at Henry's Lake in October. Me and a friend were getting over 50 a day there last year. You can only keep two. They were smaller last year. Mostly around 3 pounds. A couple of 4 lbs. Brook trout, cuthrout and cutbows.
California does suck with fuel prices nearing 5.00 gallon, homeless everywhere, and criminals that are out and on the streets again within hours and without having to post bail, fishing closures and regulations that are even tough for an attorney to understand. So what's not to like!!!!! I moved her in 1962 when it was a good state and open hunting and fishing in most streams.

Welcome Mark,
Idaho is a great choice. I would really love to move there as well but trapped in so ca. I know exactly what your saying about California. I'm feel for your injuries. I hope and pray that your healthy enough to pursue all your interests in Idaho and beyond. Eastern Washington is another place to explore right next to the Idaho border. I hope your choice is a good one. It's getting kinda hard to find a state that you're welcome in.

I fully agree. It's getting to the point you have to have armed guards around your house. Dope is coming in by the boatloads, fule is out of control, taxes, regulations etc..... it sure was great years ago but never will be again.
mark...i hear ya about CALI.its a nice place to visit, as we have, but i wouldnt want to live there...no matter how much moneys thrown my way.Sure it has to be idaho? i have no knowledge about that state..but im sure it'l be okay. If you really want great, super fishing for larger than norm trout and stuff, new yorks tuff to beat. But then most dont like snow.
